“When people find an entrance difficult to navigate we are essentially blocking or barring access, Looking at this from a Civil Rights perspective is also informing. On an essential level, why purposely bar those of us who will only add to the creative potential of such an organization?”

Bruce Burris
Founder and former Director of Latitude Arts Community, Lexington KY

At The Parachute Factory, we prioritize eliminating all barriers that might keep our community from experiencing the art and events we host in our space—whether social, economic, or physical.

We know that our entryway is not accessible to those with physical disabilities, and it’s vital for us that we eliminate that barrier.

Not only is there no wheelchair ramp for one to access our space, but our door—our only entrance—is too narrow for a wheelchair to enter through. These are problems we take very seriously, and all funds received from this GoFundMe page will go towards making our space more accessible to those with physical disabilities.

Jonathan Ware is our project manager for the ramp construction and designed our architectural drawings. We've been quoted by a local contractor the following numbers:

General Conditions - $9,000
Steel - $3,000
Carpentry - $11,222
Window & Doors - $6,772
Electrical - $2,100

This subtotal of $32,094 does not include the contractor's 15% fee. The first 10,000 dollars we receive will go towards the door, then all funds after that will go towards the construction of the accessibility ramp.

We thank you in advance for your contributions!

Located in the heart of Lexington’s Northside, The Parachute Factory  exists as a non-profit, multi-use space to promote artistic endeavors and community engagement. We provide a professional and inviting exhibition space for artists that not only heralds artistic merit, but also thrives through community outreach.

The Parachute Factory was launched by a group of local artists from the Lexington Guild of Printmakers in 2016. The space was born out of a need for professional exhibition space accessible to both artists and community members alike. When presented with an affordable space in an old parachute factory warehouse, Guild members seized the opportunity. Three weeks and over 100 volunteer hours later, The Parachute Factory opened its doors to the public with its first exhibition. The Parachute Factory is volunteer-run and community-driven; all of our events are free and open to the public.
