This is more of a joint thing than anything else. I'm Kyle Mostiller, and I'm a nineteen year old trans guy and I've lived with my girlfriend, Amber Paradis since August '15. Since I'm only nineteen, I was living with my parents. I’m pre-transition. This means I’ve literally done nothing to transition into Kyle (from Kayla) besides a slight change in wardrobe and a hair cut. Amber moved out from Maine to be with me in Michigan. We met online on Tumblr a little over two years ago and have been almost stuck to the hip since. In more ways than one, she's saved my life. I suffer from crippling bipolar disorder and social anxiety which makes it difficult without the proper medication to even get out of the house on certain days. I had a job for a little over a month as a custodian at JCPenney but I was nowhere near mentally ready for a job, especially since they were working me seven days a week and I wasn’t making over 20 hours. It was crap, for lack of better terms. Since Amber moved in with me, she had gotten two jobs and is working both as diligently as possible to pay as many bills she’s racked up over the years. Long story short, student loans have punched her in the gut several times over and have caught her off guard. I feel terrible for being so incompetent and being incapable of taking care of her.
But, that’s not what this money is being raised for. That, I know, I’d need to work on myself and I’m alright with that. The real problem is the fact that my parents have been stuck with a huge financial crisis. My father quit his job for his own mental health that was paying well over minimum wage. In essence, he was carrying us through life on his back and I have no way to thank him truly. The mortgage on our house that we live in has over 11% interest and we live in a mobile home. At the end of the payments, my mother and father would be paying well over $200k and it just became too much. With my mother making only a few bucks over minimum wage, and my father doing the same, there was no way they could take care of the mortgage and other bills. This house is from the early 2000s and is falling apart. It’s no longer worth saving, so my mother and father realized this. While trying to take care of other bills they’ve been tossed, they realized money was too tight and on March 26th, they were served and given a three weeks notice.
Because of the money situation already at hand, my mother and father have decided it would be best to find our own places. We’ve thought about where to go and why and what’s best for us. Maine is looking wonderful and Amber is very positive and in high hopes to get her previous job back in Maine because she left on good terms and was always noted to be a hard worker. Not only would she be making nearly three bucks over minimum wage, which would be much better in retrospect than staying here in Michigan, she’d be working more hours, giving us that bit more of leverage to kick start out. However, at such short notice, there’s no way we could get out of here with enough money.
This GoFundMe is here to help us do just that. We’d need about $200 for gas and maybe enough for a few months rent, deposits, and U-Haul costs. Our dog, Nova, was a rescue dog from a shelter just north of where we live now and he’s got terrible anxiety ( gets it from his dad (: ) and we’d need some cash for a kennel for him and a new leash since he broke his old one. The car we’ve got now is a few trips away from hitting 200k miles and we know it’s on it’s last leg. We plan on selling that within two weeks, more than likely for parts. I don’t expect us to get much over a grand for it, honestly, so we’d need money for a new car. Not necessarily a new one, though. I’m shooting for something around $2500 that’s willing to make the one way trip to Maine. We placed the goal at $7500 in hopes that would be enough. It’s hard enough to ask for help in general, but to post for people whom I have little to no interaction with and to ask them for money feels so nasty. Every little bit will help. I’m so thankful for anything that gets raised, and if none get raised, I would love for this to bring awareness to the people in general about minimum wage. It’s incredibly low in not only Michigan, but around the country. It’s so hard to make it in America. Thank you so much for your time. Just sharing this link will help.
