Husting Studio Scholarship Fund '16
$3,300 of $3,300 goal
My name is Lauren Husting, and I'm a trombonist. It's my life and soul, and has been for over 20 years.
I'm also an educator. I love to see people of all ages make music and I love to help them access new ways to play their instruments and perform.
Unfortunately, music education, and in particular private music instruction for children, comes at a high premium in our society. Oftentimes those that can afford individual lessons on their instrument are already a part of strong music programs in their schools, and kids in less priviledged communities struggle to keep up. I'd like to do my small part to close that gap by offering scholarships to my studio for talented and driven students playing low brass instruments (trombone, euph/baritone, and tuba).
As you may already know, my scholarship campaign last year was a runaway success. I funded a full scholarship in less than a week, and because of the generosity of my donors, extended that money to provide 2 scholarships for the price of one. My students, Paul and Alex, both came to me from Fridley High School and have made amazing progress in the last year. You'll hear more from them soon.

How will the scholarship work this year?
I've set a goal of $3000 this year- ambitious, but I have confidence it can be raised!
This can be used in two ways to be determined by me once I have applicants for the scholarship:
2 x $1500 Scholarship- a full year of lessons plus materials (music, etc). The student pays $5/lesson.
4x $750 Scholarship- a full year of lessons plus materials. The student pays $15/lesson.
Or a combination of both!
At least 50% of this year's funds will be earmarked for a student of color or a female student.
This year, for each additional $100 I raise, I'm going to offer my services 2x monthly as a clinician to a local school's band program that could not otherwise afford it.
That's 2 clinics @ $50 each per month for each $100 above my goal.
All backers will receive regular updates on student progress.
Please consider a small donation to help me get quality low brass instruction to communities that could use it! You will be doing your part to help me realize my lifelong dream to provide quality musical education to all students.
It's my great pleasure to let you know that my 2017 campaign is live! I've moved over to a different platform- you can find it here: https://www.plumfund.com/crowdfunding/brass-lessons-for-richfield-schools- and am I need of your help!
This year, my plan is to serve as a low brass faculty member for Richfield High School, in Richfield Mn! This means I'll be traveling to the kids, utilizing their band class period, and offering them lessons, clinics, and coaching throughout the upcoming school year. The best part is- I start tomorrow! Follow my professional page on Facebook (@LaurenHustingTrombone) or Twitter (@LaurenHusting) for updates, photos, and all the exciting news from RHS.
Would you consider re-upping your donation for this new campaign? I, the staff, and the students of Richfield would greatly appreciate it!
A recap of the numbers: $3000 serves 2-4 scholarships (either half or full) for a low-income kid who has the drive and desire to take private lessons and improve on their instrument but couldn't otherwise afford it. $300 allows me to do 6 independent clinics in schools to their whole low brass section with no cost to them.
Stay tuned for more info and updates about the scholarship recipients and clinics. Applications are underway, and you can visit https://laurenhusting.com/about-the-studio/lessons-with-lauren/scholarship/ and share if you know a kid who'd be eligible!
All my love and gratitude,
(I'm leaving donations open for a little while longer in hopes that last $75 might sneak in, but this is the last you'll hear from me until students start lessons)

Thank you all of you for making Year 2 a runaway success. Last year when I began the campaign, it was just a hunch. This year, I took a big risk doubling the donation ask, and worried it'd be too much. But I underestimated how much y'all value music education. Thank you, eternally, thank you.
Love and Low Brass,
If you can help out with shares, a few shekels ($10 even goes a long way- that's a new piece of music for a kid!), or even just some good money-summoning vibes, that would be eternally appreciated.
I'll see you all at 5pm CDT!
