Hurricane Florence home repairs
We are in Onslow County, specifically Richlands NC, during Hurricane Florence. I’m sitting here watching a HUGE tree sway over the left side of our home. We stayed because we have a large family (me, my husband, 2 sons, 3 dogs, & 3 birds). We set it to $2500 which is the deductible to our wind & hail policy. If we do not need any money brought in, we will donate it to another hurricane Florence repairs.+ Read More
We got electric back the other night. It’s been clean up mode around here. We are trying to decipher insurance right now. We called State Farm and they say they can’t help us since our wind & hail is with the Underwriters. So when we asked about coverage there they basically said they don’t cover our freezer so we are out $2000+ and if we use the policy to deal with the possible roof damage, we’d have to pay our deductible of $2500...the repair is likely less since a new roof isn’t twice that. SO we are waiting for a call from the Underwriters to find out where we stand BUT it’s likely going to be our problem. I have no idea why they charge so much to be impossible to deal with . Anyway we finally got trash resumed so the 2 pick ups missed plus extra trash from using disposable everything plus all the food from both frig and freezer... ... I feel like we will never get caught up. I’m just thankful we didn’t get the damages they predicted but honestly we must’ve been in a bubble. In surrounding areas we had massive floods to where roads don’t exist, trees and power lines down and homes completely destroyed. So the powers that be really held it together for us ❤️
Charged my phone a bit. The town is badly damaged. Trees down and flooding, massive flooding the road near us is wiped completely out. Electric should be on by 9/26...it feels like forever!!! It’s been SO, 89 but “feels like 97” and get that still doesn’t do it justice. We have had water, under a boil advisory. So we haven’t been able to boil water yet since we are limited. Thankfully the local Piggly Wiggly stocked up and managed to put food on their shelves so tonight we had hotdogs instead of MREs or canned food. SO glad we filled the propane tank for the grill. So we had our neighbor over since she is all day and evening while her boyfriend is at work. I think we will just keep doing dinner that way since we can’t save any & she was eating chips and candy. It’s so weird for 8pm to be pitch dark out. You can’t see 1” beyond your eye lids, literally. Please pray for those in Wilmington as they have had it so much worse. My cousin is sleeping in her car because her house is destroyed and she’s on a waiting list. Thankfully they weren’t in it as her daughters bed now has a tree in it
We’re ok but quickly running out of ways to charge phones. We have to have alarms for Connors medication times since you can’t tell morning from afternoon and evening from night. This may be the last update for a while. We’re doing good on food and water right now. We have batteries and flash lights. Pray they get power restored soon or we may run into trouble as Connors meds are life and death, well many not all.
We are still without power but the worst seems over. We were lucky! I am unsure of exterior damages but if power isn’t restored by morning, we will have lost our entire deep freezer FULL of meats. That, however, is a small price to pay. We may leave Monday if power isn’t restored and the heat gets to be too much as Connor struggles with heat and having had the cath ablation to my heart a few weeks ago, the heat is unbearable to me as well. So come Monday we either have electric or, roads permitting, head to visit our family in Indiana. It will be a long and hard trip but a much needed break. Our water was out this morning, they managed to fix it but were under a boil advisory...without electric to boil it lol! We are heading to bed as the weather is calm for now. It comes and goes with rain. Thank you all for all of your kind words and help! We truly appreciate it!!
