Our dear friend, Hugh Gerlach, is in a fight for his life as of Sunday, October 25th.
Hugh was enjoying a fishing trip with his family that weekend when he became ill. He went back home to Martinsville, VA where Donna that immediately took him to the ER. When he arrived at the hospital, he was having a great deal of trouble breathing and very unstable blood pressure. As a result he was immediately airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston- Salem where he remains. They tentatively diagnosed Hugh with Bacterial Meningitis, strep infection in blood stream, and as result of these conditions he went into septic shock. Due to the septic shock, he has fallen into a coma and at this point the doctors are unsure when he will awake. In addition, the doctor are unsure of the long term effects on his organ and brain that the septic shock has occured. As you can imagine this will be an long hard fight for Hugh to recover from this terrible illness.
All funds raised for Hugh will be used to help the family with medical cost, helping to cover cost associated travel of his family to be with him, and other expense that we can not forsee will come as result of this illness. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
Hugh has given so much in his life as a husband, father, coach and friend to so many, and this is a small way with can give back to him in his time of need. Thank you in advance for your donations to help Hugh and his family in their time of need.
