Historical Society Needs Some Modern Help To Preserve The Past

The Historical Society of Washington, D.C. is your home for local DC history. With your support, we bring our resources to the widest possible audience through technology.

But our 15-year-old server is failing. In server terms, it is ancient history. So is much of our other IT equipment.

What does the server do?

It hosts software that gives you access to archival information. That software is how we track the details and location of every single item in our care: artifacts, documents, photographs, and library books. It also stores years of organizational data.

These IT updates will protect us from server failure and increase functionality for staff, volunteers, and patrons. PLUS it will finally give patrons and staff strong WiFi!

Our limited resources mean we can't just buy new equipment without your support.

What We Need
- IT Labor ($7,000) – a local D.C.-based IT consultancy that works only for nonprofits
- Server with 12TB disk capacity ($6,500)
- Firewall and Wireless Access Points ($2,500)
- New switches ($900)
- UPS/Large surge protector for server ($500)
- Server software ($125)
+ Other misc. costs ($675)

We are very close to our $18,000 goal! As of April 18, 2017, we have received $17,100 in online and offline donations.
