This is my father... Howie Benns. Alot of you may remember him as a hydroplane racer...from Sudden Seven...Miss Budweiser...and many other boats. He was one of the best hydroplane racers around. Since June of 2017 he has been in and out of the hospital. It started when he broke a couple ribs...then had quadruple bypass....followed by double pnemonia. In the hospital ...out of the hospital back in the ER. In new York he was in the hospital from the end of June through September with brief moments at home. I finally got him back to Florida. A new PCP and cardiologist believing we where on our way to recovery.....spent Christmas with him....which is where the picture is from. Again to the ER in cape Coral....has surgery on both feet as he incurred a horrific infection in the bones and blood stream. He is released and again we are positive. New year's Eve back in the ER. He was released on January 15th with a pic line to administer one antibiotic every 8 hours and two other antibiotics every 24 hours. My Dad is tough....he is strong but he is struggling to keep up each day. He has had 7 hospitazations since June and numerous ER visits along with doctor and specialist visits. My dad cannot be alone....he is now in cape Coral with a very kind man who I can truly say is my brother Tom Moss. As can imagine the bills are astronomical! I don't like asking for help but I don't have an option....I would appreciate anything that anyone can do....thank you for listening to our story.+ Read More
Dad was taken off the breathing tube and is holding his own...his oxygen level is at 97 today and his hemoglobin level is at 9.7!!! All of this is great news. Although he has a lot of hurdle's ahead....he is in congestive heart failure and now has a fungis blood infection but he is strong willed and fighting!! Continued prayers please.....
Unfortunately my Dad was intubated yesterday and is now in Gulf Coast Hospital in Fort Myers. We went for a blood transfusion and his oxygen level dropped to 78 as his lungs filled with fluid. Incubation was necessary as he could not get enough oxygen to the lungs. He is sadated and will be on the vent for 24 to 48 hours to allow his heart and lungs to rest. On the positive side the blood transfusion was started at 7 am this morning which will bring his hemoglobin level up and help with breathing. As always, thank you for your continued support prayers and donations!
Afternoon everyone!! Dad is in rehab. Although this good it's seems there is always a set back. He is having a blood transfusion because of the anemia. Seems simple iron at this time is not enough. He will also have the stent in the left leg done due to the poor circulation. He has started occupational therapy and physical therapy and is coming along but still no weight bearing on the right foot due to the big toe amputation. Thank you all for your continued thoughts, prayers and donations! It means the world to myself and my Dad knowing he has such great and caring friends!
Dad had his surgery....big toe was amputated...he should have no issues walking.... although some say that is balance toe it is not... especially when you haven't used it... in my Dad's case...he will be on his way to rehab in a day or two. Follow up with surgeon...still on antibiotics through the 16th...then hopefully home!!!! Keep the prayers coming ....we don't need a set back!! I know he is feeling better because he is eating like a human garbage disposal...lol....thank you to everyone for your thoughts prayers and donations
