Houghton Family Fire Recovery

Donation protected

Sometime before 1AM on October 27th, my niece
Samantha was awoken by the sound of smoke alarms going off in their house in Highland Twp, MI. Samantha rushed into her parents room and alerted them to the situation. The smell of smoke permeated the house as everyone quickly rushed to action. They immediately heard the cries of of my 4 year old niece Sophie in her room, screaming that she could not get out. My brother-in-law Art rushed into the room to find her bed on fire and half the room engulfed in flames. Fighting through the smoke, he quickly snatched up Sophie and rushed the family outside.

Sophie and Art were both rushed to Detroit Receiving Hospital. Sophie, being stuck in the bed which caught on fire, suffered the most. She received 2nd degree burns on her hands and arms, 3rd degree burns on her feet and one of her knees, and 1st degree burns on her back. They are both being treated for smoke inhalation. My sister Alisha, and niece Samantha, were both able to escape unharmed.

The home was a total loss. Every possession they had was lost in the fire. Clothing, phones, computers, furniture, etc. Was all destroy either by fire or water damage. As far as I am aware, they did have insurance, but that will take a long time to pay out, and likely will not be enough to cover everything they need.

I put the estimate at $20,000. Honestly, I have no idea how much it will take to get their lives back. But every little bit will help.

Obviously, they will need everything. I am working on getting sizes for clothes they need. If you'd like to donate anything non-monitary, please contact me and I will arrange pickup.

We need this ASAP so they can behind to rebuild their life.

Since my sister is preoccupied dealing with this crisis, I will personally handle the distribution of all donations to her. Rest assured, she will be getting 100% of the donations.

If you would like to make non-monitary donations. Please email [email redacted]. Once we get a plan in place, we will begin going through and finding a way to collect the items.
