Hotwire Performance Art Series 2019: Crowdfund
My name is Claudia Edwards, and I am here to ask for your support in funding Hotwire: Performance Art Series 2019.
Hotwire is an exhibition series spotlighting excellence in all forms of performance and video art, produced by artists who are 2-Spirit / Queer / Trans / Black / Indigenous / People of Colour. The series was founded in August 2017 by myself, and has received venue support from Hub14 Art and Performance Works in Tkaronto/Toronto, to be included in their Gallery Series as a curatorial residency during the 2018-2019 year.
At a time when the Ford government of Ontario is actively erasing queer and trans people, especially those of us who are racialized, through legislature, policing, and education gaps, we need more creative and courageous acts of resistance. In our era of enforced ignorance about the actual facts of 2-Spirit, Transgender, Intersex, Gender-Nonconforming, Non-binary and Queer+ experiences, we need to cultivate spaces of visibility, healing, and rejoicing: spaces for heightened experience, and collective listening. We also need to cultivate spaces for empathy, attention, and care, for alternative modes of education that humanize us and allow for knowledge to be created and exchanged.
We need to take the stage.
This series is created to support those for whom the performance of identity is not optional, but an everyday act of survival: a full language and discourse. Greater cultural appreciation of these truths leads to greater shared understanding and connection across difference.
We celebrate difference, we lift it up.
And we ask you to help us to do this heavy-lifting, with whatever financial support you are able to give.
100% of funds raised from this campaign will cover:
-paying 2QTBIPOC artists for their work
-event permits
-equipment rentals
