I'm Karen Brand, a friend of Robin Holliday who owns HorseSpirit Art Gallery in Old Town Ellicott City.

Once again, Main Street has flooded, less than 2 years from the last one. This flood was equal to or worse than that one. Right now, I don't have any photos of the gallery, but it's safe to say that it was severely damaged and there is much loss of her inventory.  Thank God those who were in the gallery at the time were able to get to the 3rd floor safely. Today, Robin is being allowed to go into her gallery for 10 minutes to find any personal items, take photos, and attempt to assess the damage.

HorseSpirit will undoubtedly have many expenses in upcoming days and months, and they deeply appreciate any help that you could give.  This gallery has been her dream and passion, and she's one of the most generous and loving people that I've ever met.

Thank you all for your prayers and support as Robin and her gallery moves forward through this.

I will be updating this page as I get photos and more information.

Greetings --

Robin and team have been able to get into the gallery only for short periods of time. Here are a few photos of what the found. They continue to get art out of the gallery and safely home. They were able to find some of the jewelry under all that mud!

Robin wrote this on Facebook, so I'm sharing it here:

Dear Friends -
Yesterday my husband (Max Crownover) and I visited HorseSpirit Arts Gallery for the first time since the flood on Sunday, 27 May 2018. Unfortunately, this flood was significantly worse for us than the flood we endured and recovered from in July 2016.

This time the flood waters reached almost 7 feet in the gallery (and the gallery is located 2-3 feet off of Main Street). The water reached the seventh step going upstairs. Our first floor is severely damaged Only paintings & photography hung on the walls above 7 feet survived, along with a few pieces of heavy metal art and other select pieces that we could see.

We have well over 5 inches in mud in the gallery to sort through. Fortunately, this time, it appears to be only mud and water. It does not appear that the sewer or gas lines broke and infiltrated the gallery like they did in 2016. So, I think it is safer for those of us working in the gallery to recover the art.

At this point in time, only Max and I are allowed in the Gallery. Main Street is not safe or open yet – it has to be repaired. And we have no sidewalk in front of the Gallery. So, there is nothing that you can do physically to help us right now. My good friend Karen Brand did stand up a ‘GoFundMe” site for the Gallery (thank you Karen). In addition, other stores on Main Street have similar sites, as does Old Ellicott City. Anything you can do is greatly appreciated.

The Gallery has 45 local artists & all of them lost some art. But there are two Artist – Nancy Lee Davis and Nancy Ennis that lost a great deal – I estimate that each of them lost well over $12K. Perhaps we will find some of their art as we dig through the mess.

At this point, we have moved the intact wall artwork to the third flood. We shut the door and turned on the AC for when the power come back on. We are fighting against time – as we need to get the artwork out of the gallery as soon as possible so that it does not get damaged by the moisture. Max and I are going back today.

Please know that HorseSpirit Arts Gallery will remain in business – but we are looking for new building locations now. I will keep you posted. I hope you will follow us where ever we go.

I am not my “best self” right now - I feel overwhelmed, traumatized and still in shock that this “1000-year flood” has happened twice within 2 years. One life was lost in this flood – which is heartbreaking. I am taking it hour by hour….as are many others in Old Ellicott City.

I know many of you have sent me emails, texts and Facebook messages, but I have not had time to read them all and respond. Please bear with me. Just know that I greatly appreciate them. I will be in touch again soon. You are a blessing in my life.

Abundant Kindness, Robin
