Hope in the Darkness 2018

$46,048 of $75,000 goal

Raised by 196 people in 9 months
Hope in the Darkness Walk for Youth Mental Health is a cross-country walk beginning on April 1, 2018 from both Canadian coasts. The walk will bring police officers and youth together to create awareness about youth mental health while promoting a message of hope and empowerment.

Hope in the Darkness Founder Kevin Redsky, personally has lived the struggle with mental health as a youth and has experienced the loss of youth members in his family.   Working with youth at risk and missing person cases, Kevin is compelled to take a stand on youth mental health by showing young people that we all can take action, provide support and show love.

The walk will provide police officers an opportunity to meet with youth and listen to their stories along the way. Communities will have the opportunity to support youth, families and frontline workers by joining in the walk and supporting youth participation.

Funds raised will support the associated costs of the west coast and east coast routes of the walk including transportation, fuel, accommodations, meals and youth programming.

The walk begins on April 1st from the east coast, with the west coast beginning on May 15th, two groups o f officers will begin walking toward the centre of Canada, Winnipeg.

Well, we are 1 day away from completing our 125 day journey across Canada! What an amazing journey it has been- listening to the stories of young people who have been through hard times and who work hard to keep it together. We raise our hands to them! We have been privileged with opportunities to go into communities, youth circles and to meet with service providers who have shared the struggle in addressing youth mental health. Some have spoken their truth for the first time ever and have trusted our team with their words. We look forward to this walk being the beginning of many things to come including a report from the walk that will be shared this September and Strength in Continuous Change, a new not-for-profit that will continue the work of what Hope in the Darkness started. We have engaged thousands and want the conversation to continue. Look for updates in the coming days and come and celebrate the east and west coast walkers as they merge at the Canadian Human Rights Museum on Friday August 3rd with a closing ceremony and concert. Thank you, please share and post! Help us reach our fundraising goal! hopeinthedarkness.ca

Good evening;

Wanted to share an update that the Hope in the Darkness Walk for Youth Mental Health is now halfway through the province of New Brunswick. We were detoured this week because of the flooding and are now making our way through the flooded areas. We will be in New Brunswick for one more week before we arrive into Quebec.

Our west coast walk begins on Tuesday, May 15th in Masset, Haida Gwaii, British Columbia! Our walkers will be travelling out to BC tomorrow to meet with the BC RCMP and prepare for the opening of the west coast walk on Tuesday. Like the east coast, we will begin the west coast walk in ceremony with Elder Lily Bell and will have the participation of schools and communities through Haida Gwaii. On May 18th, we will begin the walk on the Highway of Tears from Prince Rupert to Terrace, from there we will travel to Vancouver to continue the walk from Tsawwassen First Nation to Winnipeg. With the addition of the southern BC route, we will get to many more communities along the way.
With both the east coast and west coast walks on the go, our movement for youth mental health will be well underway and we encourage you as our partner to share and spread Hope in the Darkness, the song Ghosts that we knew and follow our social media to stay posted and continue to support the walk as we all make our way to Winnipeg. Here is the link to a recent CBC story that just aired in case you missed it:
