Hope for Kristin

Kristin's Story

Kristin is an amazing 26year old new mom, gifted artist, art teacher, distance runner, and leukemia survivor.  After five happy years of remission, Kristin hoped she would never again hear the words "you have cancer," especially not while holding her first little baby.  However, just three days after giving birth to August James, Kristin was diagnosed with grade IV glioblastoma (GBM), the most aggressive form of brain cancer.  The doctors tell her that, under the current standard treatment, she has 16 months.

Kristin first suspected something was wrong when she woke with an unusual headache a few days before the baby was due.  When she tried walking she started bumping into walls. A trip to the hospital, and a subsequent scan revealed a brain bleed.  Kristin was immediately admitted and scheduled for an emergency c-section. Three days later a brain biopsy was performed.  While trying to recover from the c-section and biopsy complications set in and she was rushed to the hospital once more.  Plans for a craniotomy were immediately set into motion to relieve the pressure in her brain and to see exactly what she was dealing  with.  The pathology from the resected tumor was conclusive, and she was officially diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme stage lV.  We were heartbroken.

Hope

This isn't Kristin's first mountain.  There is hope!  Researchers at a number of universities have made breakthrough discoveries regarding GBMs, extending life expectancy well beyond this initial crippling diagnosis.  Although we cannot make sense nor will we ever know why this has happened, Kristin has so much to live and fight for!

Our Goal (11/23/2015)

In just this first day, we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support that we have witnessed. As one friend expressed, we "cannot comprehend this ocean of generosity."  A number of people have asked us to increase the goal to accomodate more donations. We know that every dollar will help fund Kristin's fight. Thank you for sharing hope.  We love you all so much.

Please Help

One barrier standing between Kristin and these treatments is money.  The cost of treatment is very expensive.  From surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, lengthy hospital admissions, genetic testing, travel, pharmaceutical and medical expenses Kristin and her young family are facing a daunting financial hardship.  Please help support this urgent mission. Every dollar counts and will directly help support Kristin.

Even if all you can do is forward this link to as many people you know we are appreciative.  Most importantly, we believe in the power of prayer so please include Kristin, her family and medical team in your faithful prayers and we will be forever grateful!
