It’s hard to believe it has been six months since Hurricane Michael has devastated our area. We look around and are proud and grateful for what we have been able to accomplish in those six months thanks to our amazing volunteers and donors. The truth is though we’ve only begun to touch the surface and there are still many many more to help. Please click this link to watch a portion of what we are able to accomplish for our HOPE families thanks to your support and continue to share our campaign and spread the need for help and HOPE along our beautiful Panhandle.

HOPE Panhandle, Inc., a nonprofit organization with recognized tax-exempt status, was formed by community leaders and local business people in the aftermath of the storm in order to respond to widespread area needs. Thank you to GoFundMe for partnering with us on this emergency effort! They have offered us a  0% platform fee allowing for your money to go to those that need it most.

Upon seeing the devastation left behind by Hurricane Michael, we immediately organized and assembled a group of dedicated volunteers to help offer hurricane relief to the residents of the ravaged Florida Panhandle. Together we are serving the underserved who have lost so much and are in desperate need of loving support. Following relief efforts, HOPE Panhandle, Inc. established a bustling Community effort in rebuild.  We have currently mucked/gutted/mold-remediated 90 homes and are rebuilding 5 whose owners are set to move “back home” in the months of April and May.

Your generous donations will go toward these efforts by providing essential items needed for rebuild—roofing, HVAC repair, plumbing needs, electrical oversight as well as building materials like sheetrock, flooring, and paint. We are making a tremendous impact in the lives of so many beautiful families who have lost so much. The immediate, strategic focus is toward Rebuilding and Revitalization.

If you love the beautiful Florida Panhandle and you want to make a difference, join the HOPE Panhandle Effort today. Every penny donated can make a tremendous impact and send a message of HOPE in helping to rebuild even stronger communities across the Panhandle. If you can’t donate, please consider signing up to volunteer or donating supplies for the victims of Hurricane Michael by visiting  www.hopepanhandle.org. You can help us to create awareness of our efforts by liking us on facebook at HOPE Panhandle and following us on instagram at hope_panhandle. The team here at Hope Panhandle is thrilled to announce that Ms. Gail Phillyaw has moved back home as of May 24th! Ms. Gail Phillyaw is a loving mother and grandmother, and her home is a place of comfort to family and friends alike. Ms. Gail and her family planned to ride out the storm at their home, but at the request of her son they decided to evacuate at 4:00am the morning that Hurricane Michael hit. When Ms. Gail returned to her home a few weeks later, she was devastated to find significant roof damage. Hope Panhandle was introduced to Ms. Gail and partnered with her to rebuild her home, with the help of many wonderful volunteers and supporters.

Bringing Ms. Gail home would not have been possible without the kindness and dedication of our supporters, AmeriCorps members, staff and volunteers from all around the country. The Panhandle has a long rebuilding process ahead, but we are grateful to celebrate with each family who is able to return home. We give our sincere thanks to each person who is involved with this effort!

We are still overwhelmed by the immense amount of support the community has received over the last week. We know this is just the beginning but the camaraderie and collaboration we’ve seen thus far shows us that a brighter future is ahead.

We’re excited to share that we are now streamlining our efforts and have secured a new warehouse to store all the incredibly generous supplies that have been donated. Each day people have come to town with arms full, cars full, or even shipping containers full of supplies to share with those in need.

The sheer amount of supplies we have received have and will continue to support the emergency relief needed. We have begun the process of assessing what will be needed as relief turns to recovery and we begin to rebuild these communities. At this time, monetary donations are most impactful as we can use these to contribute to the recovery and rebuilding process as this new sets of needs is determined.

Although tragic, this situation has shed light on the amazing power of connection. This is just the beginning for HOPE Panhandle and our organization looks forward to supporting our communities in the days, weeks, and months to come.

Thank you to the amazing donors who have contributed t-shirts and stickers to help us spread the word and the mission of HOPE. Thank you to those who have given supplies, donated, stepped in to help on-site, and beyond. Thank you will never be enough but please know how grateful we are to be connected with each and every one of you.
