Hope Agency Fundraiser

This fundraiser is to help raise money for the Hope Agency. I volunteered at the Hope Agency for the month of June 2019 and it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. The Hope Agency is a school that was founded in 2010 by Jason Han. It is located in the Takéo province in a small village called Bakod.
The school started small with a few volunteers all living, sleeping, and teaching in one classroom. Today it has grown and has 10 classrooms serving to teach English to 400+ children. The school is completely run by volunteers. The volunteers help maintain and keep the school clean, and run and teach the lessons. There are 5 different levels of English offered, Complete Beginners, Beginners, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, and Intermediate.
The children attend their local Khmer schools in the morning and then have the opportunity to get free English lessons at the Hope Agency in the afternoon when they are done with their school. We teach classes from 1PM-6.30PM (1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4.30-5.30, 5.30-6.30). This school is incredible, it offers English lessons to children that would otherwise not be able to afford it. Most of the children come very poor families where their families make around $2 a day.
In addition to the Hope Agency running a school, they also have a project called the Foodbank. The Foodbank is a program to help support the poorest families in the village. Money is raised for the Foodbank solely through donations. The projects include delivering food packages and medicine to the families, helping build better homes and bathrooms (water pumps/housing/toilets), basic necessities, and buying ducks/chickens to make the families more self sustainable. I got to go one week and deliver the food packages myself and meet some of the families the Hope Agency supports. I have to say I was quite in shock to see the living conditions of some of these families. Some had a household of 10 people and all live in a small room together that was made of crooked thin metal sheets and mud floors. One family didn’t even have a toilet before the Foodbank helped build one for them. But thanks to the Foodbank, the standard of living is improving for these families. A food package costs $50 and can support the biggest family for around 2 weeks or can support an elderly woman who lives alone for 4-5 weeks.
I have created this fundraiser to collect donations for the Hope Agency. If you would like to donate it would mean the world to me no matter how small or large you can contribute. This money will directly impact the quality of life of the poorest families in the village and providing resources for the school to operate.
