Avon Owls is a registered charity, which looks after and cares for wild and captive bred birds of prey. If we are not careful some of these beautiful creaturs that we see from time to time, will not be about for our children or our childs children.
we have outgrown our present site and need to raise funds in order to buy a new piece of land, which the charity can call a forever home, we are already at near max capacity.
Our centre offers relief for upto 40 owls, like Chico. Chico is a Tropical Screech Owl from Central America. She was kept in a rabbit hutch far too small for her; saw dust entered her eyes, leaving her blind in one. She now lives in an appropriate aviary with room to fly. She spends her days acting as an ambassador; visiting schools and local events where she educates people about owls and problems that the face.
Avon Owls started from small beginnings. It started in 2008 with two owls in Darren's back garden. Now we can look after over 40 birds and have a specialized owl hospital facilities. When possible we re-home birds to people with the appropriate skills. When birds cannot be re-homed they stay at the centre where they are trained using traditional techniques.
We’ve done all this work with a 100% volunteer staff and small donation amounts. We’ve gotten this far on our own but now need help to grow. We want to be able to help more of these majestic animals but the first step is getting a bigger space.
We’ve outgrown our current bird of prey centre in Banwell. We need £45,000 for our own piece of land.
Most of our current aviaries are portable so once the land is purchased we can move quite quickly, freeing us from rent. That’s valuable funds that can go back to the birds.
