Help Rebuild Hooie's!

How ironic that this page was originally  built to support our Thanksgiving Food Drive and now we must ask for help ourselves.  On the evening of Dec. 26th, 2015, in the small town of Copeville, Texas, a deadly tornado ripped through the community destroying everying in it's path. Included in it's path was Hooie's restaurant.

Hooie's was the only restaurant in Copeville. The food was always good, and people drove from miles around, not only just to eat there, but also just to be there. It was a place where everyday people could just pop in and see several of their friends and check up on them. Many lifelong friendships began at Hooie's. You could always hear laughter, whether coming from Hooie in the kitchen, or from the customers in the dining area. If you were broke, you could always count on a hot meal at Hooie's, no questions asked.

Every year since Hooie's restaurant opened, Hooie was open on Thanksgiving Day, even though the cash register was closed. On Thanksgiving Day, 2015, eighty people were fed in the restaurant, and several meals delivered to those who had no way to make it in, all free of charge.

When the tornado struck Copeville the day after Christmas, it leveled not only the restaurant, but it also completely destroyed many memories, as well as Hooie's only source of income. All of Hooie's equipment and food supplies were lost, and the building was flattened. Many residents of the community were also hit hard by the tornado, and all of their resources are stretched beyond their limits. In spite of losing everything, Hooie's has been helping other unfortunate locals in their devastating losses, including cooking meals for those who have no way to do so, at her own expense.

Although the owners of the building where the restaurant was located were contractually obligated to mainatain insurance on the contents of the building, they failed to do so, resulting in a total loss for Hooie's. Additionally, because this was a business, and not a residence, the only government assistance available is limited to a FEMA recommended SBA loan. Without equipment, there is no collateral to secure any type of loan. This means, without your help, there will be no more Hooie's.
