NEW GROWING PATCH AND FOREST SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT FOR PLUMSTEAD & SLADE CHILDREN’S CENTRE
A new project to develop outdoor playing space to help families who have been isolated during lockdown to reconnect with their communities.
Funds are required to help us to develop safe playing space including areas of raised beds to grow vegetables at our Plumstead and Slade Children Centres.
The Centres often support families that often live in inadequate housing with little or no outdoor spaces and have minimal access to outdoor public facilities and a large number of poorly maintained spaces.
We want to give our families access to an interesting, challenging environment, where it is safe to explore and develop life skills, as well as promoting teamwork and cross-generational and community collaboration.
We will be providing opportunities for families to engage in outdoor activities together, particularly supporting those who have been isolated during lockdown
Donations are required to purchase items such as mud kitchens, planters, containers, utensils, compost, garden tools, plants, and seeds in addition to funds required for structural changes to provide a water source for maintenance and play.
The pandemic and recession are putting emotional and financial pressure on everyone and many families are feeling isolated. We will be making good practical use of our outdoor spaces and using them to teach children to work as a team in a natural setting and bond as a group.
We will be promoting physical fitness and emotional and mental well-being at a time when many families are in need of support.
