John Maguire's Road to Recovery

Calling all family, friends, and fellow athletes:
On Jan. 28, 2017, my 28-year-old brother John Maguire was injured in a motocross accident while riding at a track near Santa Barbara, CA. John suffered a crash that shattered his T9 vertebrae. He was air-lifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where he underwent spinal fusion. Although his spinal cord was not severed, the damage was profound, and John currently has no feeling below the waist.
We’re asking that John’s loved ones come together to support him at this difficult time.
Because John also broke his right wrist and collarbone, he can’t begin rigorous physical therapy for about a month. At that time, he will start working with the renowned team at Craig Rehabilitation in Denver. While we are all hopeful that John will regain feeling and mobility, he is facing a lot of uncertainty and some serious life changes. He needs your help.
For John to be independent and self-sufficient after his injury, he will need to renovate his two-story townhouse to make it handicap-accessible. Naturally, there are many necessary items and lifestyle adjustments that his insurance will not cover. Any funds we raise may also go to help with additional medical expenses we cannot yet foresee.
If there’s one thing I can say about my brother, it’s that he is and always has been fiercely determined. He has the spirit and strength of mind to rehab his body; we just want to give him the financial backing to do so. His family would be forever grateful for donations of any amount.
