Holli's Leg Amputation & Prosthetic

When Holli was in 7th grade she was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor on her left ankle. In order to stop the spread of the cancer and save her leg, the doctors removed the tumor as well as her tibia and fibula which had also become damaged by the tumor. To repair the damage in Holli’s ankle, her bones were replaced with cadaver bones fixed to a metal rod. Doing this the doctors informed 12 year old Holli that she would never be able to walk normally again. On a positive note she has been cancer free for 15 years but has had limited mobility.
In November 2016 she fractured her leg. It is healing but because it was fractured there is always a chance of her leg breaking again. Now she will either need to continue using crutches indefinitely, or have it amputated, use a prosthetic and live a more comfortable, and productive life.
Holli went to MD Anderson in Houston to get a consultation in December. During the visit, the doctor strongly recommended that the best option for her was amputation below the knee. After the procedure and a few months of physical therapy, Holli should be able to be more physically active than she has been in the last decade and a half. To quote the doctor "If you go forward with this procedure you could be snowboarding this time next year!" Holli's not real sure about doing something that crazy, but it is a nice option to have.
The cost of the surgery (after insurance coverage) will be roughly $18,575. And since the $5000 deductible has restarted, she will need to cover that cost before the insurance will cover any of the surgery. This brings the fundraiser goal to $23,000. This cost will cover everything from the procedure, anesthesia, hospital stay, physical therapy and even a new prosthetic leg.
This procedure will allow Holli to put behind a decade and a half of limited mobility and pain and give her the ability start a new chapter in her life.
