Ryan Maudlen needs our help!
We have set up this gofundme account to support Ryan Maudlen as he is currently recovering from a serious Crohns attack he suffered while travelling in Mexico.
Ryan has suffered from Crohn’s since he was 14, and was not expected to survive the severe blood poisoning after the emergency bowel surgery, where he had a large portion of his intestines removed. He has since been brought out of a medically induced coma and had over 600ml of fluid drained from his lungs, thorax, abdomen and intestines, which they believed had caused his blood infection, high fever and rapid heartbeat. Since that procedure Ryan has made amazing steps in recovery and he has been released from the Hospital after being there for just over four weeks. He is currently staying at a nearby Hotel, building strength daily in order to get well enough to make it through the long flight home to Australia.
Ryan has made such great strides in recovery that he has been medically cleared to fly and will NOT require the Medevac services which were estimated at an additional $160,000, but his family is still facing six figure medical costs.
Im sure that Ryan has touched your life in the same way he has touched ours. He is inspiring and he has given us so much love; this is our opportunity to give it back to him.
Thanks for all the incredible love and support, together hopefully we will be able to give this horrific story a happy ending!
The reality of the situation in Mexico was life threatening and the doctor’s just wanted to save my life first of all to give me a fighting chance. They did that and now I am fortunate enough to have a life to get on with. The care I was provided in Cancun was excellent and I’m so grateful to all the doctors, nurses and staff at Galenia hospital for bringing me back from an untimely end, I have so much more living to do now thanks to them. The medical care was first class and no doubt why I’m still here writing this.
In the last few weeks the gravity of the what happened is really starting to sink in. Seeing friends and family and being told how there was a genuine fear they would never see me again has made it feel so much more real that it was such a close call. So many people have told me what a miracle it was that I’m still alive, I don't know if it was a miracle or just really good luck. The way everybody helped me and pulled together was more than a miracle, it was the quick thinking and hard work of great friends that has demonstrated how good people truly can come together and achieve anything.
I woke up back in November to find I had gone from obscurity to become household news. People from all parts of my life and from all over the globe (Australia, Canada, Austria, UK and many many more) had gotten behind Me, Katharina and my family. The number of anonymous donations and donations from strangers is mind blowing and has shown me there is a lot of good in the world still. We will be closing down the Go Fund Me page and I wanted to take a final opportunity to let everyone know how truly amazed I am at how you were all there for me when I really needed it and how my gratitude just cannot be measured for everyone’s generosity. I still pinch myself as it seems unbelievable to me and there are no words to express how touching it is.
Katharina and I now have a chance to get on with our life together, the most important thing in the world to both of us (and what we very nearly lost), without the severe financial burden that could of befallen us also. With my new chance at life I plan on making it count even more than I did before and I’m so thankful that in my first 33 years I’ve been lucky enough to have so many wonderful people be a part of it.
So many really great people have been in my corner during this tough fight, one that we are going to win together. This is not a happy ending, it’s just a rocky start to a new beginning as the story of my life has a lot more to be written. Sending lots of love and good vibes out to everyone. Thank You.

Ryan has come a long way in the past 48 hours. He continues to make massive improvements on a daily basis and he is stronger than he has ever been since the situation started. He has come such a long way that he has been cleared to fly and they have booked their trip home to Adelaide, Australia. They will be flying home on a regular flight this weekend! He will not require medevac services which is great and this will save his family a large cost to get him home. We have adjusted the gofundme goal to reflect the lowered cost of his medical bills and the family is now in a financial position cover the remaining costs without facing financial ruin, all thanks to the amazing generosity of all of you!
Ryan is scheduled to meet with a Doctor immediately upon landing and then they will come up with a timetable for the remaining surgeries and procedures.
A very special “Thank You” goes out to the outstanding staff at the Hospital Galenia, in Cancun. They have been so professional, caring and supportive through this whole ordeal. Ryan was treated like family while he was there and he couldn’t have been in better hands.
All of the love and generosity shown throughout this campaign has been incredible and Ryan, Katharina and their families are forever grateful to all of you that have helped in any way possible.

I've finally made the progress that I desperately wanted to make and feel much better knowing I'm winning this fight. The last few days have been nothing but steps forward until I could take those first steps out of the hospital. The people from the hospital have been so helpful and kind to me that words cannot describe how good they have been to me.
My friends all over the world have been amazing to get behind me. I always believe that when you find good people in your life you hang onto them as long as you can. There are so many people over the years that I've kept on my life because they are such good people.
We love you all so much and don't know how to thank you.
Glad to hear you are back in Australia and on the mend, sounds like you still have a long way to go, so all the best for your future.
