In the very early hours Sunday morning, October 23, 2016 a devastating fire broke out and very quickly destroyed the only building housing Hoofs 4 Healing's classrooms, offices and living quarters taking everything with it. Unfortunately there was no property insurance covering this building, and the fire dept believes it to have started from electrical wires in the attic. While thankfully all 2-legged and 4-legged creatures escaped safely, and all horses were unharmed, this terrible loss hits Hoofs 4 Healing right on the heels Hurricane Matthew, which caused a great deal of damage to the barn fencing and other structures. Hoofs 4 Healing's director and founder Karrie Henry, along with her giving volunteers, take great joy in working tirelessly and selflessly to provide unparalleled therapeutic riding and equestrian services to those with all types of special needs, including cerebral palsy, autism and more, as well as to veterans, active military and inner city children. While Karrie is shaken, she is so thankful to have narrowly escaped with no lives lost and credits a working smoke detector. "Put one in every room!" She stated emphatically to me. Karrie is resilient and ready to do what she does best - roll up her sleeves and put th pieces back together so the therapy program can go on, but this is not a one-man job (or even a "one-Karrie" job)!
Please consider donating whatever amount you can to help - no amount is too small! In addition to funding needs, Karrie will need smiling faces in the area to help clean up, demolish, rebuild and replace. If any of you are in the area with those types of resources, they are welcomed!!
As all of you who know her would expect, Karrie is smiling and staying positive, committing her positive energy to rebuilding so that the Hoofs 4 Healing Fall program sessions can go on as planned for the many kids, families and soldiers they serve.
