Sal Needs Our Help

Fellow Warrior HeySal has been diagnosed with cancer. Your donation will allow Sal to get the treatment she needs.

The cancer has taken hold and sapped a great deal of Sal's energy. While she plans to thank everyone personally in due time, please read below for some words from Sal:

"To those of you who built this fundraiser and those who have donated to me – there will never be thanks enough, words enough to express my feelings for you all.

I have coordinated a few fundraisers over the past decade or two, and never ever would have thought I'd ever be on this end of one.  It's a daunting hodgepodge of feelings and thoughts, though.

Last spring I started feeling sick – just a small problem, probably induced by stress I was under at the time trying to get moved, lifting maybe too much for myself, saying goodbye to a roomie that was selling his home because his own health had failed.

Over the summer I started getting sicker, and by the time I moved to my sister's in California to try to recoup myself, I was so ill I didn't know if I'd survive the 500 mile drive down from Oregon.

After resting for a couple of weeks I realized that whatever was wrong wasn't just going to go away with rest and I submitted myself to a hospital.  It took a month of headaches and appointments to finally get a diagnosis.  When I got it, it wasn't a good one.

4th stage esophageal cancer.  The only therapy offered was photon therapy – and since I had already crashed to under 80 pounds, I knew that “therapy” would kill me and said so.  The doctor actually agreed with me.....but offered no other help.

So – I'm on my own.  I'm not scared of cancer, and I believe I have a good solid chance to beat this crud, but it's expensive.  I'm unable to work, so every day life is hard to afford so the hundreds of dollars of cancer killing supplements are a strain.  The therapies I would like are beyond reach of insurances in this country, so I have to pay for those out of pocket so not sure which of those I'll be able to get, if any.  As I said...............pretty much on my own.

And then my associates from the Warrior Forums stepped in and went to bat for me.....so it's still up to me to figure out what I need to get rid of the cancer.....but I have help affording it, and people who care enough to step up and help.

I can't tell you what this means to me.  Every last one of you who has taken time to help promote this...every person who has put a dime to it.......I don't know what to say other than “Thank you” and that just doesn't come close to what I feel.  I haven't cried in 30 years. You all made me shed tears. I am just so amazed.

For those of you who are interested in how exactly I am fighting this – I am putting up a blog that will act as a journal, plus it will discuss the different things I am using to help myself.  Click Here to Follow My Story .

Sometimes there are no paths where you need to go.  That's okay.  I always did like poking around wild and uncharted territory.

Thank you so much for joining my journey.  I hope you'll follow along at Beyond the Path ."
