Our Town: Hexham/Woonsocket Project

We are a married couple, who are theatre artists and educators living in New York City. Suzu is from Hexham England, and David is from Woonsocket, RI.
We recently had our first child, Kai Ledoux, and have been reminded how important community and family are.
This summer we are going to start a community based storytelling project that bridges our two home towns through art, technology, and theatre.
The first phase of the project will occur this summer. We are heading to Hexham, England. There we will do a series of workshops with the residents of the town, to unearth the rich personal stories that make up the culture and history of the town.
The next phase, this winter, will be the same storytelling workshop series in Woonsocket, RI.
Then things get really interesting...
Using material from the workshops (as well as stories collected via social media and youtube) we will create and produce an original play for each town, performed by professional actors as well as members of the community. The production of these plays will be done along with a professional production of the classic play, "Our Town."
This is a huge project and our fundraising initiative is going to have multiple parts. This is the first step in securing the funds that we need to get through the summer. Your donation will allow us to secure the materials and space needed to conduct these workshops and reach as many different populations of people as possible.
This project is particularly special and meaningful to us. We love where we came from, and we love that our work can be a bridge to share insights into what makes us alike, different, and ultimately human.
