Help Heritage Get a 3D Printer

Why is a 3D Printer Important for our school?
We, the Heritage Boosters (PTA), are looking for your help to purchase a 3D printer for the start of the 2016 - 2017school year.  The goal is to also provide all of the supplies to sustain the 3D printing for the first year.  (Specific item list is at the end of this post)
This will be for our newly remodeled library/makerspace and be used to  enrich the students experiential learning inquiries.

Other learning opportunities have been explored everywhere from school to museums. American Museum of Natural History educators and scientists developed a program that introduced students to fossil structure through digital 3D printing technologies.

They printed fossil bones and challenged students to identify the dinosaur and construct a skeletal model from theprinted bones. (See Video below)

What is a Library/Makerspace?

Makerspace = Education through Design, Engineering and Fabrication
A Makerspace is a place where students can gather to create, invent and learn. It introduces students to the "maker" mentality through applying practical skills to creative invention. 

Our Library is Being Updated to have a Makerspace
We are turning our outdated library into a new and exciting library/makerspace.  100s of hours of elbow grease have been donated by parents and students to remove outdated features and bring our school into the 21st Century.  This will be ready for the students when they enter the school this September!

Cost of 3D Printer and Materials
We are requesting money to cover the cost of the printer, a mobile printer stand and the supplies to operate the printer for one year.

Why you are important in our students education?
My name is Julie Lyford, I am the President of the Heritage E-STEM Middle School Boosters (PTA) but more importantly a parent of two students attending Heritage E-STEM Middle School in West St. Paul, MN.

We have a 3D printer at home and I've seen the excitement that comes when my child is able to actually touch something she has designed and printed.

This will help all of the students at Heritage to discover new ways of thinking and creating...and help to bring them more knowledge in the possablities offered with this new technology.
