Heroes Must Die is the world's first video game-theater transmedia project: A story-driven RPG followed by a live-action-video-game stage show!
But dammit, making and marketing this project costs money. Curses!
Our game is in beta, our show is workshopped and scheduled, and we just need to spread the word at PAX. But booths cost money, money we have spent entirely on our working artists, composers, and game developers.
Please help our modest campaign raise the funds needed to exhibit at PAX South, show the convention that San Antonio has amazing works, and spread HMD to the world!

THE GAME
Building off the great RPGs of our ancient ancestors, Heroes Must Die is an homage to and skewering of retro RPGs. Beautiful pixel art, hilarious dialogue, a rocking soundtrack, and challenging combat take you through hours of story-driven gameplay.
AMAZING RETRO ART
Inspired by SNES legends such as Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, and Secret of Mana, our artists bring modern talent to classic style for a beautifully rendered pixel tour of an epic fantasy world.
ACTUAL WRITING
Created by an award-winning playwright, HMD has dialogue so hilarious you'll want to talk to every last random NPC in the game. Though humor is around every corner it is in service to a grand story of survival and redemption. But mostly humor.
BUT IS THE MUSIC GOOD??
Man, it is SO good. A funky combination of Nobuo Uemetsu style fantasy grandeur and jazzy prog rock, your ears will never be bored. Watch the videos below to hear some.
WHAT ABOUT THE COMBAT, FOOL!?
A unique system that combines fast thinking and strategy, HMD's combat is easy to pick up, but different than anything you've played. Can you master quick-memory defense and tactical planning to combo-chain your way up to boss destruction?!
INCREDIBLE MISSING FEATURES!
HMD proudly refuses to include several common RPG elements.
- No boob armor! The women only wear useful protection because they are warriors, dammit.
- No inventory! This sword is +1 initiative but -1 defense... nah, to hell with that. Let's play!
- No sex scenes! That would be weird in pixel art!
- No political or religious message! We're just not very good at writing that!
- No freemium! You just get the whole damn game when you get it, even when we release new chapters and new choices!

We said this is done by a playwright, right? The sequel to Heroes Must Die is a live-action theater show in the world of video games. Not only will you see monsters, magic, and even UI brought to life by puppets and stagecraft, YOU control the action and interact with the characters. Make dialogue choices, commandeer action scenes, and choose story paths for a unique stage experience.
