We’re the bridesmaids.
And, if anyone has seen the film, you’ll know that bridesmaids are made of tough stuff… the type of people who will do whatever it takes to make sure that the bride-to-be has the best wedding possible!
So what do bridesmaids do when the proverbial hits the fan and the bride’s hen do is thrown into jeopardy? Well…. This!
Here’s our story. We hope you’ll get behind Project “Happy Hen” and ensure that – against the odds - our friend Jilly has the best hen do imaginable.
We’re Danielle, Kate, Becky, Laura and Louise…. collectively known as the bridesmaids! And this year, we will see our lovely friend Jill walk down the aisle to marry her lucky (and equally lovely) husband-to-be.
Last year, as the countdown began to the big day, we started plans to give Jill the ultimate hen do – the perfect send off into married life! Marbella was the chosen destination – four days of fun, we thought! Using a friend – a travel agent and fellow hen - to make the booking, 20 girls signed up to come along, and the scene was set for the ultimate short break – with no shortage of sun, sea, sand and sangria.
Holidays were booked in at work, bikinis were bought and two of the three payments were made in preparation for the hen do. We had even had flight confirmations – all on track… we thought!
Then, remember the proverbial/fan we mentioned?! The two collided most spectacularly, less than a week into the New Year. We were alerted to the fact that the agent through whom we booked the hen was allegedly fraudulent – taking money, but not making bookings. Horrified, we called the hotel and checked the flight bookings…. A flight of fancy… Not booked, despite us collectively having paid almost £4,000 to the agent. The hen do had unravelled….
So, 19 excited hens find themselves hen-do-less and more than £200 down each and the usually uber-positive bride-to-be has been left devastated – with 19 of her nearest and dearest affected, and her own ‘bye-bye to single life’ party in tatters. With less than 9 weeks to go until the now non-existent hen party we have found ourselves in the almost impossible position of being able to gather the funds together to book a replacement hen party, as we trusted our ‘friend’ (the travel agent and fellow hen) our monies were transferred direct into her bank so we are unable to claim the money back through banks, even after speaking to the financial ombudsman. If we can reach £3800 in donations it will enable us to get our once happy bride to be the hen party of her dreams.
While I understand we are only one of the hundreds of people that have been affected by this, what makes our story unique is that the lady in question was part of our 'holiday' , unfortunately for us, we trusted her enough to pay direct into her bank which is why we have been unable to recoup the funds.
