Help Willie's Funeral Expenses

Saturday August 4th: My buddy Ed and I visited a yard sale. The yard sale was run by an older gentleman that seemed to have a hard time getting around. After looking over the yard and noticing a little bit of everything, we bought a couple things. After I paid the man, he asked me to spread the word to anyone interested. He told me he had stage 4 cancer and will not live much longer. He then said he plans to sell every weekend and hopes to not have stays in the hospital so he can sell his stuff. After giving him a strange look, he told me he has to sell everything he owns to pay for his funeral. We've all thought our lives were bad and we are going thru rough times, but imagine worrying about selling all of your belongings before you pass away, just so you can be buried with with your parents. After thinking about it all day, Ed and I are determined to help this man.Sunday August 5th:I returned to the man's house to ask him a few questions and ask for his permission to help him out. I then spent the next hour with him talking about his illness, he showed me doctors reports, information from when he was in the navy, and so on. This was way more than I needed to know. But I think he was just happy that someone wanted to help him.The man's name is Willie and he lives in Brownstown, a borough located in Johnstown, Pa. Willie served in the United States Navy from 1970-1976. He was very proud to show me his picture taken while he served. Willie is a single man with no help and has been forced to try and make ends meet on his own.Willie is suffering from Squamous Cell Carcinoma and his time is extremely limited. His wish is to buried right beside his parents in the cemetery plot that he owns in Culpeper, VA. After meeting and talking to someone like him, I would love to raise any money we can to help this man and allow him to relax during his final days. I would love to assure him that he will be buried with his parents. I ask that you please make any donation, every little bit will help. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. Thank you for your time.

October 2, 2018 Update:

Good morning,

We wanted to provide an update concerning how the funds will be withdrawn. Based on their policies and security procedures, GoFundMe has requested that Willie be directly responsible for withdrawing the funds at the conclusion of the campaign. Willie will be depositing the funds into a bank account specifically for the campaign funds, until his funeral arrangements are made.

Once Willie’s funeral expenses and any applicable taxes/fees/etc. are paid for, the remaining available funds will be used to help other veterans struggling to cover funeral costs. We are currently working with Willie to determine the best way to distribute the funds. Any additional updates will be posted here on the page.

We would like to once again thank everyone who has donated and shared throughout the campaign, and we encourage you to continue to share Willie’s story.
