Veterans Looking to Reunite

Donation protected
Help Veterans unite to celebrate a decade since they deployed together to find the war's deadliest weapon (or get found by them), Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

September 2016 marks a decade since many members of the Army's oldest and most decorated Combat Engineer unit, 111th Sapper Company Assassins (later redesignated back to A Company) 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division "Big Red One" deployed for the second time to Iraq for 15 more months after returning from a 12 month deployment less than two years earlier.

Our unit cleared thousands of miles of roadway of the war's greatest threat, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). While we returned with our lives, the combat operations and continuous IED detonations have both brought us closer as a family although not without its challenges in returning to society.

We have managed to stay close through impromptu get-togethers, Facebook, and chance encounters, however this year we want to be able to bring our brothers in arms back to Fort Riley to not only reunite but meet the current generation of Sappers carrying the torch forward. While we recognize the importance of staying together and in touch, the financial challenges of convening such a group are difficult for us to handle alone.

Every contribution will go directly towards funding a Soldiers travel and lodging back to Fort Riley, Kansas in September to this reunion of those whose motto was "Getting Blown Up So You Don't Have To". We will use this time to support each other through the tough times and remember those we have since lost.
