Scout Needs Help!
The night of June 1, 2018, our dog Scout started to exhibit signs of loss of use of his hind legs. By the next morning, he was completely unable to stand on his own. After trips to the vet and the emergency vet, it was determined that Scout had a ruptured disc in his spine which caused severe bruising to his spinal cord, causing him to lose the use of his legs. He underwent a very costly surgery to help alleviate pressure on his spine. This surgery has a 50% chance of success. He’s still recovering and we don’t know the outcome yet, but the price of this has already been very high. Plus if the surgery isn’t successful, he may need a dog wheelchair. I’ve never asked for crowdfunding help before but I think this is a good time to start. I’ll post updates when I get them. Thank you!+ Read More
Short video of a very happy Scout on his first visit to the park this morning since before his surgery. Still gaining strength and coordination. Bonus boots for extra traction.
Still weak and very wobbly, Scout can now stand and walk. Improving every day!
Scout is doing really well with his physical therapy, and he had his first hydrotherapy session on Monday. And yes, that is peanut butter on the glass.
Scout had his first physical therapy appointment today, and he did great! We have lots of work to do to get his back and leg muscles working again, but he seemed very happy to be active. And he got lots of treats, which always helps. In addition to his homework, he'll have 2 appointments per week for hydrotherapy, laser therapy, and special exercises to help regain balance and control. One of the nice things about this whole ordeal has been seeing all of his veterinarians and vet techs fall in love with him. He's an awesome dog and we can't thank you enough for all of your encouragement and support.
