Help Margaret and her children

Donation protected
*Margaret is a brilliant, kind and compassionate woman. She’s an academic, a creative writer and, most importantly, she’s a doting and attentive mama to two beautiful little angels (4-yo boy and 2-yo girl). Unfortunately, Margaret’s life has taken a tragic turn. After enduring five years in an abusive relationship, Margaret made the courageous decision to flee. Beginning again is never easy, but Margaret pursued her entrepreneurial dreams and pushed ahead in a new life for her children, with the hope of being free from domestic violence. In late October 2017, Margaret’s life, and the lives of two small children, changed forever. A violent incident at her home, in which a dear friend of Margaret’s was seriously and permanently injured, has left Margaret with post-traumatic stress disorder, insomnia and anxiety. Margaret’s ex-partner has been charged with attempted murder. Margaret is in a constant state of uncertainty, trauma and fear.

Working is impossible and the therapy bills are stacking up, not just as a result of the trauma, but because Margaret’s son is autistic and requires around ten hours of therapy a week, including ABA therapy, speech therapy, child psychology and occupational therapy. This cost in particular is almost impossible for Margaret to bear now her capacity to work is diminished. Her son's disability funding covers under two hours of therapy a week, which was insufficient even before this little boy's life was turned upside down. Margaret being Margaret has continued to meet her son’s extensive therapy needs but her funds, and the funds of generous friends, are running dry. Additionally, Margaret is struggling to pay the basics like food bills and mortgage payments. For someone who has mentored many, been a strong supporter of women’s causes and done her very best to protect her children, asking for help is difficult for Margaret. So I’m doing it for her. Without the help she needs, and the funds to give her son the therapy he desperately needs, Margaret cannot move on. She is now facing losing the family home, which is a disruption she fears her son cannot handle at this delicate stage in his life and his therapy. Please consider helping Margaret. She’s helped so many and is determined to keep life for her children as ‘normal’ as possible.

ETA: Mounting costs mean the family is facing losing their home in the next two months and seeking emergency housing. Margaret is desperate to avoid this in order to maintain stability for her kids, especially for her son, whose condition means he cannot deal with any change, let alone such major change, without incredible suffering.

All donations will be used to cover therapy expenses in the first instance, and any additional funds for basic living expenses.
*Names have been changed to protect the identity of the children.
