Help Marc find hope and a home.

Donation protected

Marc turned 71 years old this year and for the first time in his life he has no place to call home.  Marc was evicted from his apartment recently and he is currently homeless and penniless.

We are Marc's high school classmates and friends.

We went to High School with Marc who was a standout student, all around athlete lettering in 3 sports and a well-liked guy. He went on to UCSC and he was in the first UCSC graduating class in 1969! He started in  Car Racing and then evolved into a professional car racing photographer.

What happened?

Marc was  helping plan our 50th high school reunion in 2015 when a week before the reunion, he had a heart attack and had to undergo triple-by-pass surgery.  If that wasn't enough, he then experienced kidney failure. Marc was in the hospital and rehabilitation center for almost two years. After so much time in bed, Marc could barely walk. He had to undergo two hip surgeries, which required more bed time and rehabilitation. He now is walking slowly with two canes, which is his only mode of transportation.  Marc also acquired type 2 diabetes during this horrific time.

Why does Marc need help?

Marc is homeless and and has little or no money.
Marc is too proud to ask for help.
Marc currently has no income except a small Social Security payment.
He cannot work in his current condition and he has difficulty going short distances.
Marc has no family or other means of support.

What kind of help does Marc need?

He needs financial help to pay for some kind of living arrangment, food, medical costs and medications. Santa Cruz has a limited supply of affordable housing, and most of it is designated for others with priority , such as veterans.

What is the plan?

1.  Find immediate temporary housing for Marc, so he can have a safe place to sleep at night.
2.  Begin the search for more affordable long term housing. This may be a long process due to demand and long waiting lists.
3.  Assist him with navigating the Social Service system.
4.  Long term, help him get into a living situation with social service benefits that will allow him to live in a safe environment with adequate financial aid to pay for food and medications and to give him HOPE for the rest of his life.

One former classmate said, "We will leave no classmate behind!"

We never know what life may bring us and Marc's situation could happen to any of us. We're so happy that we may be able to help him live the rest of his life with HOPE and a place to call Home.
