Help Lauren, RJ, and Sammy the Dog!

On April 19, 2018: I saw that I had been texted that my best friend from college, Lauren's apartment was on fire. This photo is of them in their apartment. I was dogsitting/staying there while Lauren and her boyfriend, RJ, were out of town (RJ was to run the London marathon). I rushed out from rehearsal and over to their apartment to find that the apartment and their belongings as well as my own had burned down. Thankfully, Sammy, her incredible and loving dog had been rescued and is in safe company. Her rent-stabilized apartment of almost 7 years and her belongings in it are lost. Lauren and her boyfriend will be returning home early to tend to piecing their living situation back to order. Lauren is my best friend from college, we have a friendship that spans over a decade and she is one of the most incredible and generous human beings I know.

She is deeply committed to social justice. She often works 12-14 hour days as a chef in the restaurant industry and now has to find a new home for her and her Sammy. She and her boyfriend will be paying for a return home out of pocket, will have to find a new home, as well as one temporarily as they cannot return to their apartment, and will also have to find a way to house Sammy until they can get a more permanent living situation in tact. Her boyfriend and her will be replacing all their belongings. (My laptop and belongings I had packed to be there with went under as well).

This is a financial undertaking that delves well into the tens of thousands. I hope we can come together to help Lauren and Sammy at this time.

Together they have brought so much love and joy into our lives and have housed so many of us through the years. I hope we can come together to lift them up at this time so that Lauren, her boyfriend and Sammy can continue making this world a better place for so many of us.
