Our dear Jan Sanborn and Loren Janes have lost everything in the Los Angeles Sand Fire.

Jan is a renowned pianist, composer/arranger, and church musician who recently retired from her position at California State University, Northridge where she accompanied ensembles for many years in the music department. She has also appeared with the Roger Wagner Chorale, the Los Angeles Chamber Singers, the Santa Clarita Master Chorale, for numerous churches in the greater Los Angeles area, and many other musical organizations.

Loren Janes was a professional movie and television stuntman and stunt coordinator who worked with major stars in the industry including Jack Nicholson, Kirk Douglas, Charles Bronson, Michael Douglas, Frank Sinatra, and many more. He as appeared in more than 500 movies and in over 2,200 television shows. In 1961, he co-founded the original Stuntmen's Association, in 1992 he was elected to the Board of Directors of SAG, and in 2004 his name was placed in the "Walk of Western Stars."

Jan has been the primary caregiver to her husband Loren who has been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for four years. They had to evacuate quickly at night, so they were only able to save a few important documents, and have lost everything else. They are currently staying with friends, but could really use your support/donations due to the fact they had no insurance. We are hoping to raise funds to help them start over and find a home, and to assist in the care of Loren. Many homes were lost in this terrible fire, and we are asking for prayers for all who lost their homes, and for all the brave firefighters who have put their lives on the line to save lives and property.

Thanks so much for your help, Jan and Loren are wonderful people with beautiful souls who have contributed so much to the world in each of their fields, and to all who have had the pleasure of knowing them.

Here are some links to some of Jan's beautiful compositions,  two  performances of "We Walk By Faith" for choir, Wieuca Road Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia: We Walk By Faith, Jan Sanborn  and from The Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA: We Walk By Faith, Jan Sanborn and an arrangement of the hymn "For the Beauty of  the Earth" for piano:  For the Beauty of the Earth, Jan Sanborn . Dear friends:

It has been quite some time since I have produced an updated report on our lives after the Sand Fire.

For one year afterward, Loren resided in a wonderful care facility, where his declining health was much in evidence. Sadly, he passed away in June 2017, and we were able to do a memorial service of his amazing life the month afterward. The Bel Air church and many friends have been incredibly supportive during my grief process, and I now live in a small condo in a 55+ community back in Santa Clarita, where I enjoy life — safe, friendly, open, accessible to all that is
important to me. I continue to be involved in many ways musically, and that makes me happy.

It is because of your generosity that I was able to do this, and my heart is filled with gratitude — to God my Creator-Shepherd for lovingly taking Loren to be with Him forever, and for guiding every aspect of my life; to close friends and my family for oversight and affirmation; and to all of you who responded in such a heartfelt way to help with the Restoration Process. Unforgettable! God bless you.

From mom:

Last Monday was the first anniversary of the Sand Fire that destroyed our home, creating an unwanted, unthinkable new set of life experiences. It sent Loren downhill in his battle with Alzheimer’s, so that I needed to find for him a care facility, and for myself temporary residence.

All of you who gave from your hearts to help us truly did just that — you provided a degree of financial security that enabled us to move forward. It has been a challenging year, but God has been good to us, providing amazing friends, beautiful caregivers, and the much-needed clarity and strength to go forward.

One month ago Loren lost his battle with that cruel disease, and he really didn’t want to stick around any longer. Pneumonia became his friend. I can hardly blame him. But I am privileged to have walked that year with him, helping him be Loren for as long as possible. We honored his amazing life last weekend — with inspirational music, detailed reminisces, and a conviviality he would have loved. Now he is at peace in heaven, his memory intact.

And I, while grieving, know there is much to be done, and view the future with the assurance that God knows the way. His love is unmistakeable. Of that I am certain. My gratitude is profound.

Love, Jan

We’ve only just now seen this. We’re so sorry for your troubles and your loss. We attend Grace and have been so blessed by your talents, service in Christ, and especially the song “We Walk by Faith” — so strengthened and touched by it. Thank you so much. The Lord be with you and Loren. Merry Christmas.
