Help Jaimee and Danny help Rosie

Donation protected
Jaimee and Danny adopted Rosie on 3/4/17. They went to PetSmart just to take a look at some puppies, and instantly fell in love with her. The rescue agency knew little about Rosie. The only information they were able to provide was that Rosie was a Black Labrador, approximately 7 months old, and picked up from Animal Control on Fort Benning. When Jaimee and Danny first saw Rosie, they noticed that her left arm appeared injured. The rescue agency ensured Jaimee and Danny that it was a birth defect, and Rosie was in no pain. Jaimee and Danny decided to adopt Rosie, and she quickly became a member of the family.

Jaimee and Danny are newly weds who were married at West Point less than a year ago.  The army has taken them from Texas to Georgia in that year.  They were so happy to find a puppy and bring it into their home. They both grew up with rescue pets in their homes.

A few days after adoption, Rosie was taken to her first vet visit. The vet informed Jaimee and Danny that she did not believe that the arm was a birth defect, and ordered X-Rays. Results of the X-Rays indicated that the arm was most likely a prior fracture that did not heal properly, and they were referred to an animal surgeon. They met with the animal surgeon, who informed them that Rosie is suffering from a digital radial fracture/ulna fracture causing angular limb deformity and elbow incongruency. In layman’s terms, Rosie’s arm had previously been fractured at the growth plate of the radius. This resulted in the ulna growing, however the radius stopped growing. Because of this injury, Rosie is going to require a dynamic ulnar ostectomy and corrective wedge ostectomy. This procedure is going to cost an estimated $3,100-$3,700, and the recovery includes 2-4 months confined in a crate.  The doctor also told them the surgery needed to be done sooner than later so Rosie had her surgery on April 20th. It has only been a few days but the surgeon said all went well.  Prior to the surgery Jaimee contacted the rescue agency to find out more information regarding their claim that the arm was merely a birth defect, however they were unable to provide any documentation which indicated that the arm was a birth defect. The director of the agency admitted that they were provided false information.

In addition to the necessary surgery, Jaimee and Danny were told by the surgeon during the consultation that Rosie may have another condition and needed to return to her vet.  So at Rosie's 3rd vet visit in 5 weeks Jaimee and Danny found out that Rosie has Demodectic Mange that she caught from her mother.  She is receiving medication but with a surgery date of April 20th she cannot have some of the treatments available and the condition may get worse with stress.   Thankfully it  is not contagious to other dogs except from mother to litter. It may go away as Rosie's immune system developes but they are concerned about the stress of the surgery.

Jaimee and Danny are committed to getting Rosie happy and healthy. Any funds raise will go to Rosie's surgery and her 4 month post op care.  The surgeon says Rosie will have to be crate kept for 4 months but possibly as long as 6 months to protect her arm.  Follow up surgeries are also a possibility.

We would be forever grateful if you can find it in your heart to help Jaimee and Danny help Rosie.  They know they are all Rosie has and will not consider anything else but getting Rosie the medical care she needs. Rosie will need follow up medical care for months.
