On Saturday June 2nd, Crispin Herrick was at home working with his table saw and, despite his skill and care, met his left hand with the moving blade. This resulted in the effective amputation of two fingers, and lacerations on the others. He had surgery on the 5th at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, which is about 3-5% of his recovery.
It remains to be seen if additional surgeries will be required (including a potential "completion amputation" on two fingers), but whatever happens, Crispin is out of commission for the next several months, at least, and aside from the continuing physical pain, it's an emotional ride for a carpenter and artist, as well as having a devastating impact on the family's income.
To cover the costs of their medical bills and Crispin's lost income over the coming summer let's band together to lift up this amazing family and support their livelihood.
It's not yet clear what the long term medical expenses will be but the goal amount reflects Crispin's income and medical out-of-pocket max ($4500) that are clearly evident at the moment.
As of this update, the next step is pin and suture removal on the 17th.
