Helping A Disabled Veteran Build A Homestead

Donation protected
We are a family starting a homestead. I am a disabled veteran that decided to do this after having some setbacks after coming home from Iraq and had to have knee surgery that stems from my time in service along with several other problems with my back and neck. We had to start from raw land as that was where we had to start, not the easiest way to start a homestead but at the time that was our only option.

We have been doing everything by using a shovel, rake, hoes, and our hands. A few things we got lucky with as getting some of the land cleared to start and getting power and phone. Those took some time as power is expensive to put in on a piece of property. We hauled water for the first 2 years or so until we got some help from some friends and a local well company to get a well put in. Now we are trying to get the land cleaned up and getting things like the septics put in, we started one septic, as it was far cheaper to do it ourselves as to having a company put them in, we saved, took us two years to do this, and got one in but it was really too expensive. As the inspector will tell you what the requirements are and as a landowner, we can do most things ourselves. We dug out the hole for one of the septic tanks but the rain caused it to fall in and washed dirt back in the hole, so it will have to be dug out again. We did get the line from the building site to the tank and got it covered so that would not happen there also.

What we are needing is a backhoe, I am hoping to be able to get a tractor that has an attachment backhoe on the three-point hitch and some other attachments with it to make it a multi-function piece of equipment. I have the knowledge to run one of these because of the training in the military, along with other equipment and the general knowledge of how to build and do many things from prior experience in the building trades. This will be a great help as it will make things here much easier on our homestead and allow us to move forward much faster and make life easier for all of us.

This is an urgent need as it will help us move along faster and keep my physical problems from getting worse and make it much easier for us.  If you cannot donate I do understand that, as some of you may not be able to, support comes also from sharing this and promoting it as well. Any and all help with this will be greatly appreciated and it is good knowing that there are people still in this world that care about others and are willing to help when needed. Having this piece of equipment will be a big benefit to our homestead and it is good to know that you will help make it happen and we are thankful that you care and want to see and help us succeed. We want to tell all of you "Thank You!" for the donations and to everyone that shared this campaign.
