Help Heal Lisa's Hand

I’m Lisa Spector, a Juilliard graduate concert pianist.

For more than 30 years, playing piano has not only been my passion, it’s been my livelihood.

On June 25, 2017 I was performing Rhapsody in Blue. Two days later, in one moment, everything in my life changed. I fell and broke my hand and finger. 

I need your help with medical expenses to restore my hand. Read below for my full story...

In July 2017, I had two surgeries for seven complicated fractures and finally… the cast was removed at the end of August. 

Although the 2nd surgery was successful at healing my bones, I’ve been facing some delays and complications in my recovery of the full use of my right hand.


While the soft tissue and bone healing looks very encouraging, my hand has sustained an extensive amount of stiffness, and left me with limited range of motion.

After two extremely painful and tearful months of physical therapy, without much improvement, I was  diagnosed with CRPS, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. My physical therapist told me I'd never fully recover.

I fired her. 

When my hand surgeon told me acupuncture wouldn't help, I didn't listen. Instead, I chose to listen to my body and my own internal wisdom. That's when the healing began. 

Through a combination of Western and Eastern medicine, I’m pleased to say I'm making huge strides towards what I know will result in full recovery of my hand. 

I just need patience and help from you. 


The healing of my hand has been all encompassing and my number one priority. I’ve been on leave of absence from working on my online pet business.  

Obviously, my deepest desire is to regain my ability to play the piano at the level I have always been capable. My heart and soul wants nothing less.

I’ve had dreams of both of my hands making music. I lay still during acupuncture treatments and imagine myself at the piano, playing the music I have always known and performed with great ease. I listen to the soothing music I've recorded for dogs, and it’s now become my own healing music.

How You Can Help 

Asking for financial help is not easy for me. But, when a friend posted this comment on Facebook, it gave me the motivation to set my fears aside and ask for your help.

I'm reaching out to you for help because the stress and challenges of my medical bills has become too great for me to shoulder alone. 

My Out-of-Pocket Medical Expenses

Two Surgeries:   $4,000 
Physical Therapy: $2,400 
($25 co-pay per session,  estimated 96 sessions)
Alternative Therapy Treatments: $6,000 to $9,000 
($1,000 per month at an estimated 6 to 9 months)

3rd Surgery Additional Costs

Surgery #3:   $1,800
Physical Therapy: $ 750
($25 co-pay per session, estimated 30 sessions)
Acupuncture: $450
($25 co-pay per Kaiser session x6/ 3 out-of-network treatments)
Total = $3,000

My healing regimen includes physical therapy, acupuncture, Feldenkrais movement therapy, trauma therapy, and Qigong classes. By adding these treatments, I've already surpassed the expectations I was told I would never reach.

If this goal is exceeded, the additional amount will help with my living expenses, so I can focus my mental and physical energy on my recovery.
