Baby Camila's Liver Transplant Fund

Donation protected
My name is Camila...

I'm only 1 year old from Guatemala and I'm a fighter!

The day I was born I went to intensive care due to biliary tract and respiratory problems. I spent my first Christmas in the hospital, but 24 days later, I was finally able to go home with my family.

During my recovery, the doctors detected high blood pressure in my retinas and I had an emergency laser surgery. This procedure was successful but within several months my weight did not rise as expected. My parents and family became worried about my health again.

My pediatrician referred me to a pediatric gastroenterologist. After reviewing my medical history finally diagnosed me with Alagille’s Syndrome. This is a genetic disease that causes me to have fewer bile ducts, which makes me accumulate bile in my liver, deteriorating it severely. The syndrome may also affect my heart, kidneys, and blood vessels (as in my retinas). By receiving the proper treatment and medical care my expectation of a quality of life is high.

After further examination, this disease was causing my liver to work less and less. I was referred to a pediatric surgeon who performed a liver biopsy in November. The result was discouraging and confirmed the diagnosis of cirrhosis with fibrosis, indicating the only alternative – a liver transplant.

The specialist says that I must have my transplant in a period of no more than 6 months. In Guatemala, this surgery is not performed so I must travel to another country. This adds to the overall cost of the procedure, along with additional pressure and discouragement, that my family can't afford.

However, we recognize that throughout this whole process, God never has abandoned us. We glorify his name in the midst of this hard time.

We will be infinitely grateful for your contribution and prayers.

I am Camilas cousin, from Denver, Colorado... these funds are being sent to my family in Guatemala to help pay for Camilas surgery and other expenses that have accumulated throughout getting proper treatment for Camila. This includes not only the actual costs of surgery, but also flights to Spain for Camila and her parents, as this is where she is recieving her surgery. Money has been sent over via moneygram so they may directly have access to funds as they arise.
Again, we would like to thank you for donating and helping Camila, God bless!
