Help Dan beat Cancer

$32,852 of $50,000 goal

Imagine, you're 30 years old, with a dream to be a lawyer, you have put yourself through Law School. You have so many hard earned letters after your name it's crazy. You move to LA to pursue your dream and hunt down a job.

You have a neck pain, go see a Doctor and they tell you that you have Non-Hodgkin Lmmphoma, and that this cancer is such an aggressive strain, they don't think you had it three weeks ago...   You have tumors in your heart and lungs and up you neck.

How would you feel...?

Hey all, many of you know my friend  Dan Goldberg as the eager, helpful young chap around the Castle, an amateur magician working hard to make a new life for himself here in the US.

He's just 30 years old and a month ago was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.  At 30 years old.

To say the treatment is taking a toll on him and his career dreams is an understatement.  The cancer is a aggressive and moving fast.

Even with insurance he is still incurring costs that are causing great stress, and as you know that just feeds the sickness.

Treatment starts with six rounds of intensive chemotherapy,  each of which requires him to be an inpatient at a hospital for 5 days. He has been fighting with his insurance company to have them cover the treatment, literally since his  diagnosis and often in the middle of treatment.

It's next to impossible for him to make any kind of a living.

As his friend I can't sit here and watch the man suffer, so I've put together this little go fund me to ask for help for Dan.

Anything would be of help, as little as $5 and much as... well you know cancer treatment charges, they're astronomical.  Then there's rent (he could be evicted soon)  food, transport, medical, it all adds up.  And it's all needed as soon as ossible.  .  I have set a goal of $30,000, although I'm sure the bills will far exceed that.

The type of cancer Dan has is called “Double Hit” Lymphoma, which is a very rare subtype of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma – which is already super aggressive.

He is at Cedars Sinai because that is one of the few places in the world that has the required expertise on the double hit lymphoma .

So if you could all do me a huge favor and help my friend Dan, I would be most grateful, and I know he would be too.

Cancer can strike at any time and at any age, having friends who can help in an emergency is a wonderful thing. We can do this xxx

Thank you in advance.

Hi all, some great updates as we move into Dans fourth Chemo treatment.

First of all THANK YOU, we hit our initial goal. you're all amazing, BUT I'm raising the numbers, as Dan has a lot more treatments ahead and I've seen his bills...

So, how's he doing?

Dan finally got his PET scan… 3 weeks later than he should have had it, but hey, who's counting...

The good news is that the tumors above the heart and in the lymph nodes are almost gone, and the tumor in the lung has shrunk quite a bit. Which isn't just good news it's great news as this form of cancer is incredibly aggressive.

The bad news is that Dan's body wasn’t recovering as well from the chemo… and his 4th round of chemo, which was supposed to start on Monday April 9 had to be delayed, because his wbc (White blood cell) count was so low - which was scary because of the aggressive nature of the tumor

Update as of today…. Dan's insurance finally approved a shot that stimulates the production of white blood cells.

To give you an idea of how important that was:

The normal wbc is 4.0-11.00

Dan's wbc counts this past week were
4/3 was 1.0;
4/6 was 1.2;
4/9 was 1.8;
4/12 was 2.6; …
Today, after yesterday’s shot…. 16.8!! I mean, that's just crazy!

Accordingly, Dan was able to start his 4th round of chemo today.

He also has some cool news but I'm going to leave that up to him to tell...

Again thank you so much for the support and please spread the word as the fight continues!
cheers

WE are $600 away from out initial goal to help Dan beat cancer. Truly amazing! Thank you to everyone out there.

I will keep this open to continue to raise awareness and funds as Dan's fight continues.

So much to say about how the insurance company is acting but I'll leave that to Dan, who is now a lawyer, and may put a class action together, not kidding, pure fraud...

People have to deal with this every day, it's crazy.

This third Chemo was rough, the lack of proper meds due to the red tape has made it even more painful, and the petscan has yet to happen to see if the cancer is retreating. But Dan is soldiering on and he's a real fighter.

You are all so wonderful for helping. All I can say is thank you and lets keep spreading the word.
With love
Steve

Hey all, a quick update,
First of all we are nearly at our first goal of $30,000, just a mere $2800 away! I am so full of gratitude to all of you for your extreme generosity and for getting the word out.. Please keep retweeting and sharing and lets keep this momentum going.

This week has been pretty hard, Dan started the 3rd round of chemo which really knocked him out. Even though the Doctor and hospital said Dan should only do this as an inpatient, sadly insurance refused to authorize that, so he has been having to travel every day to the hospital, which for someone with chemo coursing through his veins is incredibly hard to do.

He has yet to have the petscan to see if the treatment is working of even if the cancer is growing, moving or encroaching into other areas of his body. Once again the red tape is holding up what should be a very easy and obvious thing to approve. The more I see the run around that Anthem and Global are giving Dan, a man suffering from cancer, the more infuriated I become. They even told him the pain meds were approved, but then didn't approve them. It's so crazy. I hear from other friends that this is not uncommon.

Even though he's incredibly tired and frustrated from this whole thing, he is keeping his spirits up and that is because of the love and support he has received from all of you. Just know that he has read every message of support and is aware of all of you.

Thank you again

Steve
