Hola!!!
I am Pablo Leñero Archer, and I need your help. I moved to Los Angeles from Mexico, to pursuit my dream of becoming a pianist and a composer for films.
The past 3 years I have been studying music in Santa Monica College, however, to finish my degree I must transfer.
After auditioning I got accepted into the piano performance- composition program at the California Institute of the Arts, starting september 2016. The school was founded by Walt Disney, with the intention to create a space where all forms of art collaborate together to create something new. CalArts is very selective, the acceptance rate of this school is around 27% compared to other music schools where is 40%.
CalArts not only counts with amazing musicians as faculty, like Vicki Ray, my future piano teacher, that have worked with with great composers such as Gyorgy Ligeti and Pierre Boulez. CalArts counts with notable alumni from the school of film and video, such as: Tim Burton that directed Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and many more. John Lasseter- co-founder and artistic director of Pixar Animation Studios and Brad Bird- key animator at pixar, just to mention a few.
For me, success in any career has 3 important elements: Hard work, Talent/ Passion, and Contacts (network). CalArts offers me to develop my passion and creativity through my hard work, while I make unique contacts in the film industry.
The total cost for 1 year is of 45,030 U.S. Dollars (I KNOW, WTFREAK!!!). This only includes the cost of the school, no health fees, no books, no housing, no food, you get the point. As of now I have recieved a scholarship for 20,000$ from the school based on need and merit, and loan so 25,000$ to go!
Also GoFundMe is giving a 10 scholarships of 10,000$ to students that create a campaign to raise funds to pay their tuition.
