We have started this page to help our beautiful friend Amy and her family to pay their ever growing stack of medical bills.
Amy Slaughter is a loving wife and beautiful mother of 4 children. On January 22nd Amy went in to the hospital to have a tumor and a cyst removed from her brain. Although the tumor was not cancerous, it was causing her problems that made everyday life difficult. This is actually the second time that Amy has had a tumor removed from he brain. The first time was back in the fall of 2011.
The initial surgery went well and the tumor and cyst were successfully removed. Several days after the surgery, Amy was able to return home to finish her recovery. Although there were some complications with loss of feeling and memory, things were looking good. Then, several days after returning home, Amy had to be rushed back to the University of Utah. She underwent another MRI where they found there was an infection deep into her brain. With no time to delay, she again went into surgery, where with an effort to get to the infection quickly they had to remove part of her skull. . Fortunately, Amy is a fighter and is pulling through it. At the wirting of this, she is just completing her 11th day in the hospital and she is stable and making improvements everyday. It is vital that the Doctors ensure that the infection is completely gone before releasing her from the hospital
Through this process, Amy has lost feeling in her right side, has trouble communicating, and has difficulty with her short-term memory and eyesight. While it is too soon to know if any of these will be permanent, and there is a long road to recovery, everyone remains hopeful that Amy will be able to make a complete and full recovery.
Anyone that knows Amy knows the great woman, mother, wife and friend that she is. Amy leaves an impression on every person she meets. Even as she is in the hospital, she lifts those that visit her. Her faith and attitude are strong and inspiring. When I think of Beauty and strength I think of her. I have never seen her enter a room with out a beautiful smile or soft laugh.
Amy’s husband, family and friends have all gathered to help. People have graciously given time to help with the kids, bring meals, and many other things. With the mounting bills and the long road to recovery, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Amy’s family needs your help. Please donate – any amount will help.
