WHO ARE WE?
We are Living Ecology, a child organization of Aranya Agricultural Alternatives, in Hyderabad, India. We work in a poor, drought affected area of India. The farmers we work with have a very poor diet due to poverty and the emphasis that has been placed on growing GMO cash crops. Wells go dry. Farmer deaths due to disease and suicide are common. Permaculture provides great solutions for these issues. Living Ecology teaches and implements these solutions with farmers on their own plots.

WHY ARE WE RAISING MONEY?
In 2017, we are going back to India to help 8 farmers with permaculture implementation on their existing farms. We want to dig a community well to be used to water trees in the initial years. Water for the farms also means vegetables can be grown, which is crucial in this area where malnutrition is abundant. Financially supporting fencing is also important for the success of newly planted fruit, medicine, fodder and biomass trees.

WHAT WILL THE FUNDS BE USED TO PURCHASE?
If we are successful in this campaign, this is what the funds will be used for:

1. A new well $660
2. A water pump and pipes $590
3. Fences for 8 farms $800
4. GoFundMe fees if successful $161.95

We hope to surpass our goal by $500, to be used towards purchasing trees for these farms, which is a key factor in building a successful permaculture ecosystem.

WHEN DO WE NEED THIS FUNDING?
We need the funds before the end of February, 2017, which will give us enough time to complete this part of the projects before the planting season.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
In these Indian drylands many farmers have stopped growing their staple foods. Most have lost the information (in just 2 generations) about how to grow food without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Use of these products causes farmer debt which is the cause of farmer suicides. Permaculture rainwater harvesting techniques ensure that wells do not go dry, even in times of drought. Planting trees is also important in this deforested area.

As we teach people how to sustain by creating model farms the knowledge has a butterfly effect. We are not only transforming and upgrading 8 family farms, we are creating farms that are an inspiration to other villagers and creating the belief that another, better way is accessible to them.

Not only will you be helping us teach sustainability - you will also be directly impacting the lives of families that will be forever grateful, potentially for generations to come.

Thank you for taking the time to consider helping us get funded. Please make a donation now. If you cannot, we ask that you kindly share this post to help us spread the word.

This campaign has finally broken the $500 threshold. We're still not quite 1/4 of the way to the fundraising goal. We had hoped to have raised about twice as much by now, and there are 8 farmers in India counting on Living Ecology to bring them water. This movement was trending at one point, so I know we can make that happen again. Please help now by making a small donation and sharing this campaign.

Thank you!
