Stunningly beautiful Ile des Pins in New Caledonia - hides an ugly secret behind its magnificent blues of sky and water.
The beauty of nature is outstanding here, however up until now, the animals on the island have suffered tremendously.
Uncontrolled numbers of dogs and cats roam the neighbourhoods looking for food.
In an attempt to remediate the situation, local people have up until now grabbed desperate methods to overcome the problem.
Drowned puppies, dogs killed on the road or shot were sadly an everyday occurrence .
Thanks to the Flying Vet's campaign, this is now coming to an end with a dog sterilisation program.
This clip is a teaser for our longer movie coming up in the very near future.
We hope you enjoy the beauty of nature and will find it in your heart to contribute a small amount to our Gofundme program for animal welfare in New Caledonia.
A donation of $50 covers the cost of 1 dog sterilisation, so with a following of some 10000 people we hope to raise $10000 which would sterilise 200 dogs on the island.
Last week about 30 dogs were helped.
The Flying Vet reckons that a three monthly visit will do the trick so that in one year, the problem will be nipped in the bud.
The poor female dogs will no longer be obliged to have puppies twice a year, will no longer get hassled by gangs of dogs when they are on heat.
The local people will no longer have to kill 8 or 10 puppies at birth and later on, kill the one puppy they often leave to the mother.
Help us to help others, thank you!Together we make a difference.

Dear friends and followers,

Thank you for your support, encouragement and generosity in managing this campaign. Sadly the mayor of Ile des Pins is no longer supporting the sterilization and care of dogs and cats on his island. Her just wants them killed. Today we heard about another horror story on this island, with a dog having his paw cut off just for entertainment.

So much needs to be done on this island but without support from the authorities, it is no longer possible.

We have therefore turned to the plight of animals on Ouvea, one of the Loyalty Islands and have this week carried out a sterilization program as a multi agency program. We are on Thursday of the one week program and have helped about 80 animals and their owners.

We have been asked to continue the support of two other islands who are part of the Loyalty group, namely Lifo and Mare. To keep things clear we will therefore start a new campaign for these animals. So long friends

Operation Dog update! A further sterilization program on Ile des Pins is planned for June. We are so pleased that through the outstanding work of Guy Kane, the flying sailing vet, this program will continue.

However, we still have an additional problem to address: I was made aware yesterday by one of the people staying at Le Meridien that there are a number of dogs who are so hungry that they are driven to eating tree bark.

I phoned Guy last night and he said it would be possible to start a feeding program with the help of local responsible and trust worthy people.

It is known that the municipality would prefer for the stray dogs to be culled. Some are indeed very ill and undoubtedly suffer.

So we may have to work on several fronts: feeding the healthy dogs, sterilizing bad sadly helping those who are very ill by euthanasia.

Let us know what you think and if you wish to contribute to the feeding program do so. Thank you!
