Help us Open COOP LA!

Hello!

We are 3 cooperatives and 1 social enterprise that have joined forces to share a space we humbly call COOP LA.

We consist of:  Collective Avenue Coffee, De La Luna Catering, Salazar Landscaping, and Semillas Wellness.

We each offer different products or services from food & beverage to wellness education for our communities around East and Southeast Los Angeles.

Our goal is to open the first  shared commercial space in California that is comprised only of worker and member cooperatives, where our individual services and products co-exist to create a holistic experience for thriving small business and community engagement.

COOP LA has found a location in the historic area of Tweedy Boulevard, a street known for its lively small business culture, enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

We are working tirelessly on cleaning, painting walls, and working with local small businesses to move the construction process forward.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Although we have paid rent to work on the location, hosted workshops, and shared the space with other community organizations and provided our coffee at other venues, we want to finish plumbing and finalize construction to provide an accessible, safe, and quality space for young adults and community members to study, enjoy coffee, and express themselves through the activities we will host.

What does cooperative mean?  A worker owned cooperative  is a business owned and run by its members, the people who work in them, and it operates for the benefit of these members. The member benefits are multiple. A cooperative can be a way for people to start and own a small business together when they may lack the means or expertise to do so alone.

WHY ARE WE DOING A GOFUND ME?

We teamed-up under the COOP umbrella to pool our funds and help each other out in the process of opening up a space. Although we have distributed our expenses, there are still several resources that we need help acquiring. With your help, we hope to fix the plumbing, continue construction of the space, and to help cover costs of community workshops and events. We appreciate all of the support.

This campaign is Extended to September 17 (MONDAY)
When you share your passion for community engagement and economic development through this campaign, you will help catalyze a space that sets the example for other entrepreneurs in our communities to grow their businesses while ensuring  social and environmental sustainability.

Thank you!!
