Help us help Duke!
I love German Shepherds for the simple fact that they're strong. Duke has more of a human personality than a dogs. He's protective, intelligent, and amazing with the kids in our family. So tender and sweet. Here's Duke's story. A few days before christmas, while chasing a squirrel or a bird, Duke took a leap of faith off a wall made of stones in our backyard. The wall is about 5 ft high and there is a hard concrete pavement below. While chasing these critters that he loves oh so much, he fell. Duke fell off the wall and did not land on his four paws. He landed on his right hip. He came inside limping to alert a family member, but we were all down stairs. He knew where we were, so with a broken hip and a leg dangling at his side, he galloped down the stairs like a newborn deer. He missed a step, and stumbled down the stairs. Again he walked to the bathroom and where he lay wimpering. when we found him, he stood up and his back right leg was turned inward to his body, dangling hopelessly on his body. According to the vets, he had hip dysplasia which is common in German Shepherds, which caused the initial dislocation of his hip, and had a traumatic break in his femur, only fixable by surgery. The surgery costs are estimated at about 4,000 dollars. Our family is not in a place to spend this kind of money, though it pains our heart to see our dear dog in pain. Our only option financially is to put him to rest. A decision that breaks our family and shakes us to the core. If you find yourself reading this, and connecting or feeling any type of empathy for our family, please donate. Any amount will help this cause. We want to raise enough money to cover the surgery costs for duke to have his hips fixed. Our family would be so grateful for your help. With the holidays approaching, there's only one thing my family and I want and that's our dog. Our baby Duke.
