The Global Women’s Strike and Women of Color/GWS need your help to get a multiracial delegation we are coordinating to Washington DC where we will participate in the national Poor People’s Moral Action Congress June 17-19, followed by meetings on Capitol Hill for anti-poverty legislation and with our national network. GWS and WOC/GWS are national partners of the Poor People’s Campaign: a National Call for Moral Revival (PPC).  Since the launch of the PPC, we’ve been part of those working to build this national movement to confront systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, militarism and this country’s distorted moral narrative. The visit to DC is also is a unique opportunity for our network to come together nationally, to deepen relationships, learn from each other and plan future work, as well as to connect with and build relationships with other movements nationally.

We urgently need your help to raise $2,000 to help cover the high cost of airfares and van transportation plus conference registration, dorm housing, other expenses.  All participating are donating what they can to meet this cost but we still urgently need your help. Please help us.

Our multiracial delegation includes grassroots campaigners, immigrants and US-born,  working in the areas of: women's rights; anti-racism; the right to welfare and other resources; a living wage for all workers including mothers and other caregivers; criminalization of poverty; unjust removal of our children by child welfare agencies; immigrants’ rights; environmental rights; rights of prisoners and former prisoners; vs war and occupation; solidarity with the movement in Haiti against corruption, poverty and for democracy. Delegation members hail from northern and southern California, Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Our efforts on Capitol Hill will include pressing for the  reintroduction of the RISE Out of Poverty ACT (RISE), support for the American Family Act which will pay child benefit, and to draw attention to the little reported but on-going massacres taking place in Haiti supported by the US-backed Haitian government.

The Poor People’s Congress will bring people together from over 40 states to continue to build a broad-based, multi-racial, cross-issues movement, and to make sure the issues facing the 140 million poor and low-income people in this country, 73% women and children, are on the agenda leading up to the 2020 elections and beyond.  Plans for the Congress include the launch of the Poor People’s Moral Budget, a Forum with 2020 Presidential Candidates where poor people from across the country will ask questions, a Freedom School, and a Poor People’s Hearing on Capitol Hill.

Women in Dialogue is the 501c3 fiscal sponsor of this delegation

Thanks to everyone for donating! We are *almost there* with less than a week to go before the Poor People’s Moral Action Congress in DC. We still need help to get there!

To those who have donated, please share with friends, on Facebook, donate a little more if you can. And if you haven’t donated yet, we still need your help – no amount to small, or too big.

This is an important moment for grassroots people across the US. On Monday, nine Presidential candidates, including Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and others will participate in a forum at the Poor People’s Congress addressing our questions and demands.

This will be the biggest forum in the country before the presidential debates start, and the only one where candidates must address poverty, systemic racism, ecological devastation, and the war economy and militarism, which threaten our survival and indeed all life on this planet.

What people have said about why they helped get our multi-racial delegation of women, children and men get to Washington DC next week:

“We need voices, especially those that represent women of color and poor people, to pressure legislators and others to close the wealth gap in this country!”

“One of the most important movements I have been a part of in the past 5 decades.”

“This is such an amazing movement, finally impoverished people speaking and meeting with Congressional reps in their own voice, rather than others speaking for them. This is movement building from the bottom up.”
