Fight Like a Mother: Help chronically ill mom of 6 Tina Sexton pay for life saving care!

Just a little over a year ago, Tina Sexton was a hard-working, vibrant mom of 6 beautiful kids. On top of her full-time job as a manager of a local restaurant, Tina volunteered everyday at her sons' schools, attended every field trip, and never missed a single game until she was hospitalized for the rare and life-threatening illness Myasthenia Gravis. Even now, Tina does her best to never miss out on her kids' lives. She is the epitome of a devoted mother and proud grandmother to her "sweet potato" grandson Eli.

To know the Sexton family is to love them. Tina, her devoted husband Mike, and their kids had a very active life and enjoyed all kinds of outings and events as a family. Mike and Tina's 4 kids who are still at home are: Kirsten, age 19, who works full-time to help pay for her mom's medications and is a full-time student studying criminal justice at Fresno State. Alexander "Bug" is age 16 and a senior in high school. Alexander plays varsity football and varsity soccer and organized a Myasthenia Gravis awareness event and walk in honor of his mom. Alexander is going into the Special Forces in the Air Force after graduation. "Bakes" (Jacob) is age 13, in 8th grade and plays youth football. Brandon "Bug" is age 10 and Mike and Tina's baby. Brandon worries about his mom constantly and was witness to her recent crisis in the Emergency Room and wants to stay home to watch over her everyday.

All of this changed dramatically with the sharp decline in Tina's health and has taken a profound toll emotionally, physically, and financially due to the loss of Tina's income, multiple respiratory crises requiring expensive hospitalizations, out of pocket medical costs for life saving treatments not covered by insurance, special diet for Celiac's Disease, other costs associated with making their home accessible and safe for Tina, and general costs of living for their 4 children living at home.

To date, Tina's diagnoses include: Primary: Myasthenia Gravis WITH exacerbation, Neuromyelitis Optica, Dysphagia(difficulty swallowing) Neuropathy (nerve pain) Paresthesia (nerve pain) of limbs, tongue, lips.

Tina's secondary conditions are Celiac disease, Fibromyalgia, IBS, Crohn's Disease, Adult sleep apnea, COPD, Chronic pain, Chronic low back pain, Bilateral shoulder joint pain, Left and right foot drop, Migraines, General Anxiety Disorder, and PTSD.

Tina and Mike's monthly out of pocket costs due to Tina's medical conditions are approximately $2000, not including large hospital bills and other costs of living. Tina is currently awaiting a hearing to appeal the denial of her initial SSDI application. They have exhausted all known options for financial assistance and support and are humbly in need of community support.

As Tina's friend and fellow Myasthenia Gravis patient and mom, I was inspired by Tina's fighting spirit and tireless efforts to overcome her illnesses and still be the super mom she has always been.

Please check out the tee shirt campaign as well.  I was inspired by and designed it for Tina and all brave moms fighting seemingly insurmountable obstacles:
