Help through eviction and education

Donation protected

Hi, I'm Isaac Hoppe. Thank you for taking time to read my story and even considering offering any help you can. I'm an autistic and physically disabled trans man in New York. For the past five years, I've been getting room and board with someone in exchange for housework.

Over the past year, things at my current living situation have gotten quite terrible. Starting about a year and a half ago, neighbors would play loud music daily until late at night. With my condition, this unceasing loud noise caused me physical pain. Unfortunately, they became abusive when I talked to them. And now the situation has escalated to the point that I am being illegally evicted with no notice from that living space before I could get to a point of self sufficiency.

I was adopted and when my autism became noticeable, my parents became abusive. I've been on my own without their assistance for 20 years. I am only in touch with my grandmother, who is unable to provide assistance. That is a large part of why I've struggled with homelessness for much of my adult life.

Fortunately I have a friend near Rochester who has offered me a more accessible room for very low rent in her quiet neighborhood. But I need help raising the money to pay for rent, food, and household necessities until I can be financially independent.

I am currently ineligible for food stamps due to my unemployment. I was on TANF when I first arrived in New York, but I got kicked off of the program while I was in a homeless shelter because of my unemployment. I've tried to get back on the program since but have been faced with extra requirements. Homeless shelters in NY are paid by TANF, so without it, I can't stay in shelter.

I have carpentry experience and want to improve my skills so I can earn an income and be self-sufficient. One thing that prevented from joining a carpentry apprenticeship is my math skills. I recently found a tutor experienced in working with learning disabled clients, and they are donating their time. So now my only obstacle to entering this apprenticeship is the initiation fees.

I am talking with the county executive about my case to successfully reapply for TANF. I believe it will take up to a year to deal with the barriers I've encountered. During that time, I expect to need $6000 to cover $250 for rent and $250 for food and household necessities for a year. The initiation fees for the carpenter's union total $123.

If I receive more than $6123, I'll use the additional money to pay down medical debts and build credit. If people have tools to donate, that would also be very helpful.

GoFundMe takes a portion of the proceeds, so if you donate directly to my paypal address - [email redacted] - that is better. I can manually add donations received offline and from paypal to the fundraiser with your name and whatever note you leave (if you don't want me to do this, just write "anonymous" in the note field).
