Help Suwan regain his sight

$1,715 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 34 people in 12 months
Suwan used to be a welder when he tragically lost his sight. He became a very talented massage therapist and has been living and working at Health Oasis Resort since 1999.

Management recently took him to an eye specialist here in Koh Samui and the doctor reported that there is a possibility for him to partially actually regain his vision.

We are raising money to pay for his operation in Bangkok. The hospital we have selected is the Rama hospital in Bangkok: http://med.mahidol.ac.th/international/

The total estimated cost is approximately 100,000-120,000 Thai Baht.

Operation: 50,000-60,000
Travel expenses to and from Samui for two people (Bangkok airways): 25,000
Accomodation for 7 nights: 7,000-10,000
Food and drinks: 7,000
Salary for the assistant for 7 days: 3,000
Taxi and any potential incidentals: 3,000

The management team at Health Oasis Resort will keep you posted on the updates and also follow us on Facebook.

Thank you for your generosity.

We are pleased to share an update with everyone that Suwan is back in the resort and working again.

The campaign and donations raised a total of about 90,000 Thai Baht. The total expenses for the surgery, flights, food, accommodation etc were 78,426 Thai Baht. Plus we offered the remaining 12,000 baht to assist him with expenses while recovering and resting in Bangkok for 2 months.

As far as the outcome of the surgery and his eyesight:

1: He can see better in close proximity (less than 1 meter), however, still not very clear. Most of the time, he sees more light and recognizes more color differences. For long distance, he still cannot see very well.

2: He has to put eye drops everyday for the next 5 months as his medication after operation.

3: He has to be careful to not be exposed to direct sunlight too often. The doctor also recommended him to use sunglasses.

4: Even though his eyes are not completely recovered, he knew it was not that likely, but he feels better emotionally because many people took good care of him both at work and at home. He feels grateful to all that have helped him.

5: Now, he is very happy to be able to return to work.

Hi everyone, apologies for the late update.

Suwan went to EyeEarNoseThroat Hospital with our receptionist Miss Apple. The doctor checked and advised that Suwan should go to meet eyes professor at Siriraj Hospital since the case is too severe for them to resolve. They didn't charge for consultation fee at all.

Apple brought Suwan to Siriraj Hospital straight away. The doctor at Siriraj checked and advised that Suwan has both Glaucoma and Cataract. He explained the former could not be treated, but cataract could. The doctor made appointment with Suwan on August 16 to treat his Cataract.

He mentioned that Suwan should do the operation to prolong his eye sight ability even though it will not be 100% cured totally. Also that only his left eye can be treated. It has been injured by both Glaucoma and Cataract. However, the doctor mentioned he could not know which one affected Suwan's eye the most. He has assumed that Cataract is more severe and such has recommended to operate by changing lens in the eye.

After the operation, he mentioned Suwan should be able see better, but can not give a guaranteed percentage of improvement.

In our minds and hearts, any improvement will be a positive step. The cost for the surgery is THB 25,000.
