Told in Stephanie's own words...
"The most epic weekend ever started on Friday with our family gathering together around my Nano (Grandpa) as he was labeled fragile and lay in a hospital bed in the corner of his bedroom as we gave him medication to keep him comfortable. Nicky, my aunt and I decided that we would not leave and wanted to be by his side and also bring comfort to my Nana, so we stayed the night. Nicky and I laid together in bed and Nana slept in the spare bedroom in hopes for her to get some rest. Nicky and I laid and talked for a while when finally she turned over to sleep. I said, “I’m going to spoon you” and rolled next to her. The next thing I knew I was entering the hospital on a stretcher, blood all over me. I had a seizure, violently shaking, something I have not had before. After a couple of scans, the typical CT and MRI, a mass was revealed. A mass that was confirmed as a brain tumor, large, the size of a baseball. It’s sitting just behind my left eye and could have been growing there my whole life; we truly do not know because we only have these images of my brain and no others. Surgery is required as the Dr wants and needs to remove as much of the tumor as possible. Right now that is scheduled for Wednesday. The Dr. isn’t sure he will get it all, but he says that’s ok...we need to make room in there and carve it out before my vision starts being affected. We don’t know how intertwined it is until they open up my head. So, there you have it, I have a brain tumor. I’m trying to stay positive because honestly besides the seizure I feel completely normal. Steve has been by my side, and my family is all a mess, especially my mom. Please pray for everyone including the surgeons and the medical team, for my family and me. Also, this morning my Nano has officially passed peacefully in his home. I know he just couldn’t bear this news of mine, it was hard enough to tell Nana. The risks of surgery include slurred speech and right extremity paralysis. Until Wednesday I’m the Stephanie you’ve always known."

Stephanie will have a long recovery ahead of her, and if we can help with everything from groceries to assisting with bills that's what we want to do! Easing their stress financially is a small part of the healing process but a part that we can all help with right now.

Thank you for helping our friend, who's a wife, momma, daughter, sister, grand-daughter, a faith-filled woman, and a dear friend to many.

Thank you!

As of Monday, June 11th Stephanie is completed with radiation therapies! She’s lost 1/3 of her hair and is feeling quite weak from the treatments, along with chemotherapy every single day for 6 weeks. While she feels the annoyance of the unpredictability each day brings, she is remaining focused on her children and her husband and doing her best to stay positive about life and all the joys that she has in it. Moving forward Stephanie will continue 12 more months of chemotherapy treatments and also have scheduled scans/imaging every 3 months to monitor what is happening. She has been sharing her story intimately on her Caring Bridge site (link: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/smokovichbraintumorstory) if you’d like to follow along more intimately. Also, a Benefit has been organized in her name locally in Wisconsin on August 26th this year (Link to download flyer: www.bellablvd.net/docs/SS_BENEFIT_FLYER.pdf)

Stephanie is doing great! She's home and healing with her family. As you can see from the photos, she's come a long way in just a few weeks, but she still has a long road ahead of her as the tumor was cancerous. Stephanie is so thankful for all that have contributed to her GoFundMe page. We are still taking donations, and even $5 will help in taking care of Stephanie and her family while she recovers and heals.
Thank you for all the love and prayers you've poured on this beautiful family!!

Stephanie update from best friend Morgan Bandkowski:

What a day!! After a setback a couple of days after surgery and a hard weekend, Stephanie is making progress and showing signs of recovery! Today was all about removing lots of tubes and lines from her which is great. She also has been able to have her bed raised just a little which seemed to make her much happier than lying flat! She is still pretty tired, communication is minimal, but the Stephanie we all love is starting to show through again. We’ve shared many messages from all of you and it's makes tears stream down her face :) Thank you for all cards that have started to arrive at Bella, I can't wait till she is well enough to open them all. It will make her so happy :)
We know a lot of people have contributed to Go Fund Me for Stephanie and her family, we are eternally grateful!!! ❤️❤️

Love to all of you from: Stephanie, Steve, Hunter, Ruby and our entire family.

Thanks to all of you the goal I set of $6,000 was hit in less than 24 hours, so I upped the goal to $10,000, and that was hit a little over 24 hours!! I'm going to up the goal to $15,000 and let's see if we can hit that for Stephanie and her family!!

UPDATE FROM LAST NIGHT: "Hello all, this is Jenna posting for Stephanie. She is recovering in ICU right now. Very sleepy but stable. She is able to talk and move her right side. I work at the hospital she is at and was busy making her room pretty when she arrived. She squeezed my hand with her right hand with a kung-fu grip which made me happy cry, and then she wouldn’t let go. Steve is here now, and she is hoping to rest for the night. Her nurse, Kaity, says they will have to wake her up every hour to do neuro checks, and she will have another MRI later tonight. She is answering questions and responding appropriately, even took a sip of water and swallowed her medication! This makes the speech pathologist in me very happy. So thankful for the strong, brave and amazing girl she is."
